Is the red a layer of paint or is it the primer that was originally put on?
theres 2 layers of red under all the other paint..the bottom one is flat and the one above it has more of a shine to it..thats why i'm thinking it was red..

hey Sal :)
really not sure whats going on to be honest...got the gaps down to 5-7mm but now the frontend doesn't line up with the bolt holes
guess i'm gonna have to keep playing and see what i can do..lots of tea/smoke breaks to keep me clam...ish

after 2 days messing about trying to get the gaps down finally got the wings on today..divers side is down to 3mm passenger side is down to 5mm did matter what i tried just couldn't get it any closer..guessing i'm gonna have to put a strip in that side....
the front will go back on once i get the grill and skirt adapters on..just need some work now to pay for them...

Looking good.
I'd run a strip of welding rod down that right hand side to close the gap.
Jobs a good'un.

had a late night and an early start in the garage...finally got round to stripping the last of the old underseal
a couple of coats of rust stuff..repaired a couple of small holes..etched primed seam sealed
gave it a couple of coats of gravitex..
one of those days when i wish i had a brain cell so i went off and did some other bits..came back looking over the shell to see what needs doing found some welds the i meant to grid down last week..didn't stop to think and just got on with it,wasn't till i'd finished i saw this
bubbled up most of the way along there guess i'll be sorting that out tomorrow then....
thats the inside of my roof after years of rust eating away at it..question is do i leave it like that..can i skim it with filler? ideas please

thanks Chris that makes me feel a bit better
some are fairly deep so don't think primer will do it...thing is being as i'm do it to sell it i don't want anyone thinking i'm trying to hide bad bits..but on the other hand i want it to look good..

not much happening today..sorted out the the mess someone made of the underneath
did one little repair on the shell..
not to much left welding wise on the shell now..think it's just the front end(once the grill and skirt adapters turn up..ordered Friday) and the inner rear valance...well as long as i don't uncover any more nastys when the rest of the paint comes off..

I'm in the same position on my mini. There's not really any adjustment you can do on the inner wings (or so I thought) when I fitted mine up, thinking "it's all about the wings, front panel and bonnet". I'm wondering what to do - whilst I can just about cajole the non-gen front panels into position the bonnet gap is a good 1.5cm too large each side at the front. I think I will try to pull the tops of the inner wings inwards using three or four threaded bars across the engine bay just under the upper lips and using some box section to spread the load...
If that doesn't work then I suppose I will just have to slice and fill the edges of the bonnet...
Let us know how you get on -
Cheers
