time for a bit of an update..been spending a hell of a lot of time messing about with the paint work..don't think i've really sanded enough between coats so trying to get it a bit smoother before the last couple of coats go on has turned into a bit of a mission :shy: but we're getting there slowly :proud:

realised today that i can't get the final coats on till the front doors are fix..made a start on that today..

had to re use the drain tube bits..once the welds are cleaned up and a good coat of seam seeler is put on they should be ok..

cheap skins..knew the holes were'nt gonna line up..but i wasn't expecting that far out >_<

Looking good and feeling groovy :shades:

cheers Cliff...it's gonna be very tight in a couple of places thats for sure..as for the holes the top of the hole on the skin nearly touches the bottom of the one on the frame! gotta work out how best to fill them now..

wow that quite a margin of error, seeing as in engineering terms anything over 2mm out is scrap haha and there selling these like hot cakes no doubt!

Pay for what you get i suppose.

Well a lump of brass in the garage is like a multi tool in terms of body work so get a lump or sheet and fold/hammer over to make a chunk and place it at the opposite side of the skin and weld one side, this means you won't get as much waste weld and have to grind as much back, plus the brass absorbs the heat quite well, i,ve tried copper but tends to become apart of the car quickly haha

Take your time and do abit at a time to avoid warpage, old school methods such as a damp rag work well too but i don't like the idea of putting a wet rag on bare mild steel myself O_O

Will be continuing to follow the final stages of your build,

Cliff

i've nearly got a pair of doors!!!! :D

got a few coats of paint on all the inside bits that i'm never gonna get at once the skins are on..replaced the drain tubes..welded discs into the bolt holes on the drivers door skin cause they were miles out(camera delted the pics for me >_< )..though the pas side should be ok

happy now the doors are repaired and the skins are on..just a little bit of finishing with hammer and dolly and they'll be ready to paint

012_zps8205cbd4.jpg

my hammer and dolly  knew i should of brought that set i was looking at :mmkay:

after two days soaking in wd40 finally manages to get all the bolts out of my hinges..got the bushs changed on 3 of them..but the 4th looks like its made of brass or something and doesn't look like it even has a bush..but its very lose so i'm thing on drilling it out so i can fit the new one..
