Okay, here we go again with this. All information below is factual and opinions are my own honest opinion. For Paul who runs this operation, here is a definition of Slander before you accuse me of it again "make false and damaging statements about (someone)"

I bought a Mk1 back in November trusting these guys with it, one of my main reasons for buying the car was I was happy it would be somewhere it would be taken care of. It was delivered around November. However little to no work was carried out, I was told it had been sandblasted when it hadn't. Due to a family event, the car had to be sold this summer, what had been done so far? It was stripped and the front end taken off. The front end had only been taken off a little while before I had to sell as I got tired of the same excuses "I'll send pictures, its next in line" and I kicked up a fuss.

This is the condition the car arrived in, it took me a lot of hard work to find one like this being a genuine '61.

1467323_10152010519619824_60274751_n.jpg

This is how it was when I saw it when selling up,

3F579097-D4BC-453B-9CDC-03F7C765D701.jpg

Now the car was sold about a month ago, it took Paul a month to arrange the return of my deposit with me nagging and we spent a whole day arguing over it yesterday. I was told I was going to be charged £35 an hour for 21 hours of work (to get it into that condition?!) PLUS £141 for electricity and storage? The estimate I received states labour is charger at £30 an hour.

I have been lied to and ripped off, I still find it difficult to see how it has been 21 hours of work to get it into the state before it was sold. Some people have got in touch with me and told them they have had similar problems. It has taken around 7 months for the Mini to get into the state it is, way over what I was told. I was told it would be started on in January. Now there were problems with doors etc however how this stopped work being done to such an extent I don't understand.

Today I have been to collect a new subframe of mine which I had delivered, I had a subframe fitting kit delivered too, there are a few bolts missing from the kit and the packet was open and taped to the subframe, so my bolts have been stolen and the rest wrapped up/taped in hopes I wouldn't notice.

The Fusion name is not a registered company, apparently deposits are not refundable and I was done a favour with some money being returned. There are also claims of terms and conditions being in place which are no where to be found on the site or on the estimate sent to me by email.

So in my opinion, steer clear. Olds kool lews here has nothing to do with the running of the "company" or its operation and it is run by a chap named Paul.

21 hours to get it into the state it is in, in 7 months and being lied to? You can make up your mind folks.

Hi

I'm not a big 'poster' here, and I'm not a believer in 'Trial by Forum.'

I am the person that bought the Mini from the guy above. This was a 'bail out' purchase as the owner had run out of money ( I guess he'll put a different spin on it, it's obviously a very embarrassing situation to find yourself in, and I genuinely feel for anyone who has to bail part way through a long, time consuming restoration.)

I am going to say this:

  • If you are going to have a car fully restored, it's going to take a lot of time & money, probably more of both than you think.
  • Some people don't realize this
  • Some people don't have the money to see things through & run out, and that's regrettable.
  • Then they feel pretty sore about the mistakes they have made.
  • They can expect to pay for the the messing about they have caused the vendor.
  • They should feel pretty lucky that the vendor has found someone to take the project over & bail them out.

I have four Minis being restored with Fusion at the moment.

I have had other work done there, and know people who have.

I have recommended others to go there.

The work is good.

The quick jobs are done quickly

The full restorations take time (obviously.)

Don't venture into full car restorations of you haven't got the stomach for it.

Don't whine & ******* about it afterwards in public if you can't see a job through & want to blame the rest of the world for your problems.

There are many posts on this section showing excellent work done

As the poster above said, you can make up your own minds, folks.

Thing is though, they shouldn't be lying to a customer. End of

Plus 21 hours hands on work and 7 months of it in the workshop is a bit of a joke to be fair looking at the progress pictures of what's been done.

It's good to know Fusion are pretty local as the work does look spot on, no one is questioning that, but unfortunately just one bad word can make a whole lot of difference.

Maybe took on more than they can chew

I have to agree with Sheridan, his post is on the button I think.

Airing dirty laundry in public is not on really. If money had run out then maybe it was a good job not much work had been done else less money would have been returned or fusion left out of pocket.

One thing I have learnt from having my mini restored is that it takes a lot longer than I thought and about 3 times more than what I expected to pay and most of that cost went on parts.

I'm sure there will be good reason for that MK1 not being worked on and I'm sure it wasn't just put in a corner and left of no reason.

I'm currently having my mini restored at fusion bodywork and Paul has only been helpful. Seeing the work they turn out is first class and there rates are extremely reasonable. I have spent out thousands on parts and engine and gearbox work and I am happy it's there being welded, painted and put back together Couldn't be in safer hands and I know I could pay twice as much else where for labour.

I appreciate someone coming forward to try and explain this mess.

First of all, I do not need to discuss my personal matters and financial situation. At no point was it mentioned "I have run out of money". I was not on a "payment plan" and I had paid the deposit up front.

I understand restoring minis take a long time, especially a full restoration like the one I had. I was told it would be started in January, now what happened in 7 Months? The pictures speak for themselves, it was stripped. The front end was only taken off after I said I would pull the car out and have it sent somewhere else and this seem to have hurt and it was pulled out and the front end taken off. I have asked Paul to justify the 21 hours to get it into the state it was but he is not interested.

I was told the car had been sandblasted, now we obviously have different views on sandblasting.

Paul tried to charge me an extra £5 an hour for labour and more for electricity? Surely someone running this would understand what a labour cost is.

I'm not whining about it, a forum is a place to discuss and I have said what I have said to stop other people being conned. Since my post, two people have come forward to me with similar stories and I am in no position as I explained to Paul, to discuss who they are unless they want to come forward themselves.

I have owned around 7+ minis and understand what is involved, I have rebuilt engines, done an engine conversion plus helped many people. In this case, I didn't have the time to work on this one which is why PAY for someone else to do the work.

It has been so petty that he has opened something which is not his my subframe fitting kit and it seems a massive coincidence that the right number of bolts and washer are missing it seems to have bolted someone elses subframe on. Paul does not want to own up to this or pay me for the kit.

I'm asking for the hours of work to be justified, also I paid for some panels however Paul has never given me the receipt for the panels he "bought", so I wonder if he pocketed the money as there seems to be no receipt? The money is still mine if panels were not bought.

Again, I have been lied to and cheated. He could have been honest about the work being done. Now that it has been made public, to warn other people, Paul seems hurt as he does get work through the forum. The reasons for my posts stand as advice and caution for anyone wishing to have work carried out.

I think this does shows every business has good and bad points. Every company makes mistakes, but it's how they rectify these mistakes that matters. Seems on this occasion mistakes where made and then not rectified. Is this what is meant by 'a little longer', as quoted in previous posts? 7 months for a small amount of progress seems lengthly.

To Sheridan, don't suppose you have any photos of the progress since you took on the project? I only ask as I was considering work myself.

To back up my point about my property being used without my permission here is proof. Minispares do not use dirty masking tape and black tape and certainly don't send goods which are opened with things missing.  I have no need for the bolts as I don't have a classic mini in my possession.

How it had been taped to the subframe, a mix of black tape and masking tape?

I don't think this company is out to get anyone. I think they may have taken on more projects than they can handle though. I have heard from one person saying that his restoration is taking longer than first quoted, as did mine.
My shell was collected towards the end of August last year and I have only just taken delivery of it yesterday. To be fair though, they discovered that the shell was in a far worse state than we first thought and nearly every panel has had to be replaced. It was sat for a while with no work being done to if as they had other projects to finish, and that's fair enough, everyone has to wait their turn.

I paid £2500 and that includes panels and a two tone pearlescent respray. The quality of welding and paintwork is excellent apart from a couple of blemishes in the door which Paul has promised to sort for me.

I would recommend this company if you're on a budget, but if you want work done very quickly then look elsewhere, but expect to pay double, if not more (I was getting quotes of between £6k and £12k).

At the end of the day, Paul and everyone else at Fusion do a good job and don't charge the earth for it. But you can't have everything and with this company, it seems to be the time scale that is compromised, and I'd far rather that than the quality of the work being scrimped on to get as many out of the door as quickly as possible.
