OK so my new Defender wiper arms arrived and its very interesting! They're substantially more solidly made than the Rover Mini originals. Due to the sharper angle of the tip, the blades will rest too high up the screen, but I think I'm going to fit them anyway and see what happens. I'm not sure this angle can be easily modified, not by me anyway.

They're from "BritPart". I've emailed them to suggest they tweak the Defender wiper arm design, and sell a Mini version to the many Classic Mini owners who, like me, have 1990s Minis that they're trying to keep going as daily drivers.

Do you have a pic of the rest position per chance?

Edit - wiping was much better, but they got in the way of opening the bonnet!!

Umm, yes they do look a bit odd but sadly are also possibly not entirely MOT friendly.  Wipers effectively have to park within 40mm of the edge of the screen, they are treated the same as any other obstruction to vision when in the self park position.  When they are parked and you are driving, from where you are sitting do they project beyond the line of the bonnet?  If they do, they are an obstruction really.  It would be up to the tester whether or not they are OK.

My previous post has turned into gobbledegook but I was saying that the bonnet doesn't open properly... so its all a moot point now!

Who was it above who told me Defender wiper arms fitted!  They do fit, but are unusable!

The way they sit on the window seems identical to the way they sit on a Defender's windscreen.

But it has proved something for me - that the arms are the problem.  The Defender arms certainly cleaned the windscreen properly.

So I'm still stuck looking for black wiper arms that haven't got slack springs!
