Since I picked up a barn find last Nov I have not been able to get it
running smoothly, runs too rich. Bogs down under load, sooted plugs
and red on Colourtune at idle.

I have changed the carb because the one on the car was gummed up soild, and
the replacement ran fine on the 1275. I changed the needle back to std. stage one
spec, AAU i think (car has LCB abd RC40) but I cannot get the jet flush with the
bridge, unless I push it up by hand ! I guess it must be 1.5mm down.

The jet is a new one for the job, fixed type to replace the Waxstat, I have made sure the
balljoint is under the jets bracket, choke cable not too tight.

Has anyone experienced this ?

Hope some one can help

You still have the ball joint with a red jet? That's the problem. The ball joint rod is for the Waxstat jet, you need to change the jet operating rod to the fixed type which locates to the jet with star washers.

If you still have the waxstat jet and theres nothing wrong with it, you can convert it to fixed jet by removing the waxstat button and replacing with 2 x 1p coins

Thanks guys, but I am a little confused.

I bought the new jet from Burlen as the one
to allow the conversion from Waxstat to fixed, which
has the little side bracket to recieve the ball, or am i missing
something ?

No thats fine, already looked at that.

It looks like I need to place a spacer/washer between the ball
of the arm and the 90deg. bracket off the Jet. Will look at this weekend.

Yes I was thinking the very same, but first i am going to try and see if
a washer or 2 will do the trick before I attack the bracket.

Well done with the photos, I tried and failed to up load some.

My apologies, I didn't know they had started making these.

It could indeed be down to a bent rod, it could be that the cam components aren't quite in the right positions with each other, it could simply be dirt in between the cam parts (a very common source of carb problems). Just to be clear though you don't have to get the jet flush, just as close to flush as you can. Although it sounds like it's quite a way down the tube it may well be lower than 1.5mm when finally setup right. Although what colour bands were on the jet supply pipe?
