would it be worth the hasstle if you wern't using the service?

would you happily send 12 quid a month to a window cleaner that never came to clean your windows just because it was less hasstle than not paying it?

The licence has always been required to watch ANY terrestrial channel. That includes everything on DTB (Freeview), which includes Dave. Even if you are actually watching it over your Sky box it is still a terrestrially broadcast channel. The Freesat cards cover this viewing option with regards to complaints about licensing.

If you really believe you don't need your licence, you can cancel it at any time and don't need to wait another 8 months.

You can prove that you have never watched anything terrestrial on your Sky box. It constantly records data on your viewing habits and sends it to Sky every night if the phone line is connected (which it has to be if still under your initial 12 month contract or if you have multi room). If you get hold of the right department at Sky I believe there is a way to get them to send you your viewing history if you complain about data protection and freedom of information enough.

If I did not watch any TV, then of course I would not pay for a TV licence. Why would I? As it happens, I do watch TV, so I pay my £12

What I meant by "hassle" is the hassle in the original first post of me sending un named letter, people knocking on my door, me not confirming who is a tennant, me saying 'oh I only use the TV to watch recordings' etc etc.

Yes you can, I did it recently. Last year (because there is no money in television) I had to rent a place to live near my job because the companies won't pay for that kind of thing any more, despite needing crews to work in the various places they want to go to shoot because it's cheaper than a studio. I had to get a TV licence for it, I knew I would only be there for 5 / 6 months but they took payment for a full year. I got the full refund (calculated to the day incidentally) when I told them I had moved out. You can cancel it whenever you like.

Have I really been asleep that long ??? I thought I went to bed on the 12th of march 2013 and it now transpires today is the first of April !!!

To recap above, the OP has written "I don't watch TV therefore why should I pay for a license" that is fine. But hold on now your kids are watching TV it's your TV get a licence, I know of at least one person on this forum who makes their living and is paid by the licence fee and that person is a good hard working honest person.

So I say to you get a licence or get rid of your TV don't scrounge off the hardworking minority of this country !!!

Simple...

Dont watch tv, watch it online later.

Simple...

Dont get sky, therefore you will shut up about paying for that...

Get out and get a hobby.
