Metro 850 was 12 to 14 thou across the baord.
in fact a lot of Metro's where 12 to14 thou
And
Vanden plas UK 12 thou
MG1300 & VP Europe inlet 12 to 14 thou
exhaust 15 to 17 thou
MG turbo inlet 13 thou
exhaust 15 thou
Most standard Minis prior to about 1988 where 12 thou

i just set inlet n outlet on my mpi on sat to 0.038mm, runs fine

The bigger the gap the more wear you will have.

0.038 millimetres = 1.49606299 thou

Thanks everyone, im going to be doing it tomorrow.. i have all day so il just check and check again, il let you know how i get on tomorrow night!
after reassurance to the question i asked yesterday, if the tappets are really far out will it cause the car to not even try to fire? because currently the car just turns over, and this is the only thing i can think that i havent done.

If they are really far out then yes. or maybe o ne of them is really bad (or dropped a valve perhaps?)
Maybe check compression too if it's not firing

Or if the nut runs itself all the way up off the stud so you have a completely loose rocker. (happened to my engine and it wouldn't fire easily and when it did it was missing,obviously) lol. It was fun re doing the clearances on the side of an a road! good job i always carry tools in my mini lol

well i set the tappets today and it still wouldnt attempt to fire, i tried bumping it.. i had a fully charged battery and still nothing. ill get a compression tester tomorrow, say its all fine.. where else do i look :<
