When I was 18 I decided I wanted a Land Rover as a project. I looked on ebay and all the forums and decided I wanted a Series 1, not just any Series 1, a 80". Now for those of you who don't know anything about Land Rovers the 80" wheel base was only made between 1948 and 1953 and are considered to be THE original Land Rover. Due to my price range I couldn't afford a pristine original example. So I scoured all of the forums and auction sites again and found this. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image. A 1953 80" that had been an off roader at some point in its life (hence the yellow/green colour and cut open front wings) with a later 2 1/4 litre diesel engine in. It came from a dealer Melton Mowbray way. Me and my Dad drove it to the Traction Engine club that we belong to which was half way in between the dealer and home. We gave it a check over over the next few weeks and then drove it home. On this journey home we found out that most of the electrics didn't work and that it was lacking in power, but apart from that the engine seemed as sweet as a nut. After getting it home we found out that the engine had been modified to run a cable instead of a rod to the injector pump from the accelerator pedal so this was easily fixed. Then we decided to look further and found that the front axle needed refurbing and some general tidying up needed doing to make it safer/more usable. So the front and rear axles were rebuilt, the brakes were refurbished and the ghastly A bar from the front. Dad also found an oval spot light from under the bench, so that HAD to go on!! Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image I decided that I wanted a truck cab for the colder and winter months (it at least gives the illusion of warmth lol). We ran it like until the December of that year when the MOT ran out then we took it off the road. We rebuilt the rear axles, rewired it and in the spring time resprayed it. The panels were pretty rough under the filler. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image 2 years ago I stripped down and resprayed the truck cab, put a period work lamp on it and a period towing sign. I've also got a spare bonnet that I can put the wheel on because it doesn't fit in the rear tub due to the truck cab being the cheaper and more readily available 86" version. I love it. It probably gets more use and abuse than any concourse one ever will

A concourse one is for looking at - don't touch it - don't dare use it :shy: - they may as well own a photo of a Landy

at least yours gets the use it was designed for

Exactly. It's not original with series 2 engine and front axle. I wouldn't dare use a concourse one for shifting coal and wood about. It's also been use for towing in broken down tractors
