If that is as heavy as has been said (and I don't doubt it), it exceeds the weight that Minis were allowed to carry on a roof rack, which I think was 50kg originally. I would expect very seriously degraded handling, and the possibility of rollover accidents, which can not happen on the standard car unless the wheels trip over something. That actually applies to most modern cars, and in that sense the Mini is modern. With sufficient track and low enough c of g, you can't develop sufficient overturning moment to tip it over, because the tyres slip laterally first. But don't try it in a top heavy 4*4!

I work in the bodyshop in Oxford, where new Mini is built so can give some insider info on this. When a "sunroof roof" is pressed as A panel, the large hole is cut out and its edges bent downwards to create a flange. A second panel "sunroof reinforcement ring" is the fixed to this flange and the edge of the roof panel, before the roof assembly is then fitted to the body. IMO this would be very difficult to replicate, but I know roof assemblies are produced for aftermarket spares. I think the best option would be getting hold of one of these and grafting the bits you need into the Rover roof. I think the electrics would be the least of your worries until you have the hole right

Surely if doing this as I have contemplated as I also have the old fashioned pop up sunroof , you would cut the hole unit from a scrap car and the surrounding metal and the graft in so that you have all the proper parts?

Spoke to a guy on ebay. he said they aren't that heavy and one man can comfortably carry one. so thats positive...
i think the best idea, as kind of mentioned, would to be get a scrapped bini roof with sunroof in place, and try graft this to the minis roof.
might take some time but would be certainly worth it!

I fitted a British Open Classic roof last year and was a fairly simple job, If you do as you say and get the whole roof off a scrapped Mini then it would make a great project, If it all goes wrong you can always bond a carbon fibre roof onto yours to cover the gaping hole.

MJR-MINI-Matt below should be able to supply a secondhand MINI Panaramic sunroof complete with surrounding MINI roof panel from a scrapped MINI:

You also need to consider fitting drainage tubes to allow water to run away from the roof. On a bini if you open the boot you will see two holes. The water runs from around the sunroof and down into the boot lid aperture.

The BOC roof has drainage holes too but they're blanked off!! I opened mine up and ran two tubes down the rear pillars into a washer bottle in the boot.
