Evening all.

Is there measurable improvement between the S air box pictured below and a standard one?

I don't fancy drilling holes in mine as I hate the look and I fell out with my chrome K&N ages ago when it ruined my running! lol

Thanks :)

that was a quick bump lol

I dunno about improvement, but where did you get it, as iv been looking for one :)

If you were or are local to me, we could do a test with my modded one (with holes and inner bit taken out with K&N)

The Cooper S Works cars and the Cooper S Works retro conversion kit definitely had a replacement air box. Unfortunately the brochure does not give any detail other than to say "ingenious improvements in engine breathing, gas flow, fuel delivery and exhaust emission".
It was the addition of this airbox and a new exhaust manifold that brought power up from 85 bhp on the previous kit to 90 bhp. Personally I would not alter it.

I suspect it didnt do too much BUT it did get rid of the heater valve that becomes useless if you get rid of the heat shield that is over the cast manifold and slap on an LCB. It would be nice to attach a correct sized pipe to the end and get soem fresh air in from the grill perhaps.

If anyone has any specific data, that would be amazing because its one of those questions I have often thought about.

Did you change the needle when you put the K&N on to match the fuel to the air. I can't believe for a minute that drilling holes in an airbox does anything more than make induction noise.

We are in the injection section... no needles to change on an MPi...

Lol, I double posted by mistake.

I havnt actually got hold of one but, looking at the photo I posted. It's not impossible to make a similar intake tube by cutting an original one in half. As I've never seen an Si box for sale before :/

I was sceptical it would add anything from my experience with K&Ns.

I might try lopping the end off a standard box and see what happens. There's defintely more of them about!

Nevermind. This should work for illustration purposes. Found online.

I know, right? It was the only image I could find of the box open...in the minute and a half I looked:-) I sure hope he cleaned that thing up before putting into use.
