Comeing to the end of a nut and bolt restoration and i was wondering if anyone knew how to reset the milage?
its the standard clock, the one with the speedo on the left and water temp and fule on the right.

is it? i have no idea :L surely when 80% of the car is new/replaced then why couldent you, it was a 89 skyrose thing, now it's pritty much a track car

Well it's not illegal to do but it's sort of pointless and not very honest. It becomes illegal if you tell people it's a genuine mileage when selling it or insuring it, or in any official capacity.

The car's identity has recorded that mileage, whether all the parts are new or not is irrelevant. If you take it for its next MOT with zero miles recorded after the last one had tens of thousands, you will have to explain why. If it's a full nut and bolt resto and more or less everything is brand new unused that's great but that also isn't exactly legal to do so you wouldn't want to draw undue attention to it in any official circles. In all official capacities you will still have to use the car's total recorded mileage. If you have fitted a new speedo it's far easier, you can just record that a new unit has been fitted. If not though it's best really to just leave it as is.

If you really want to do it you can either drive the speedo head forward all the way around the clock, or strip it down and manually realign the wheels. It always ends up looking like it's been done though, it's really hard to get it looking original.

Why not set it to 00000 & note that speedo was repaired / zeroed at X mileage

record the old / new mileage & date on the service record & any other relevant doc's

note it was the car's recon date

or just note it was 'reborn' at the present mileage

When I restored my 'S' I zeroed the speedo.
It is not in any way illegal UNLESS you later try to claim that the mileage shown is 'as from originally registered' as opposed to 'since complete restoration'.
It's very useful if you have done a nut & bolt restoration to know the exact mileage since everything was 'as new'.
