Hi well worth doing if you ask me did my sons looks the dogs, looks a lot better though if you can obtain an early 5gal left hand tank as well.Costing came out at about £400 for me with the boot board but was very lucky in obtaining a right hand tank at the right price, here is a picture if this helps.

With the 5.5 gallon original tank, range with a 1275 'S' was poor even on a standard car doing around 30 mpg, and in competition it was hopeless.
Even with a 7.5 gallon later tank a modified Mini giving, say, 27 mpg the range was poor.
So yes, a RH tank is very useful if you are doing longer journeys in a 1275 at fairly high cruising speeds, or driving quickly in the lanes in low gears a lot of the time. There are also far fewer petrol stations now than there were in the 60's.

With a 1380 and depending a bit on overall gearing, you should get maybe 30 mpg on a main road journey. Allowing a sensible reserve that is about 180 mile safe range which is fine for a classic car used as a second or 3rd car, but for more regular use it's a bit short on range.
On a rally in my 1310 cc 'S' I have 11 gallons (twin 5.5 tanks) and my useable range is 140 miles or thereabouts.
The Mini is not the only classic with what is now seen as low tank capacity. For example, the Mk.1 Lotus-Cortina had, from memory, 8 gallons. There used to be lots of petrol stations, a lot open all night, back in the 60's so short range was not an issue.

Well if you get about 25mpg then just multiply that by your tank size in gallons so 187.5 miles for a 7.5 gallon tank.

Still a bit confused, I have welded  the bottom bracket but have a spare nut and bolt with a hole going through the short bracket. I have the minispares kit:

Excuse the seam sealer:

Just looking at your second picture, the short strap which is bolted to the longer one, is this bolted to the floor as well?

I've never seen a R/H tank installed in a car before and assumed I would have had instructions with the kit.
