Never heard of steering issues with theR56. I have one ( 3yrs old in Feb ) , has done 50k worth of hard driving and there is no issues with the steering. As far as im aware there is no recall, if there is , I have not been notified. Sounds like the garage are using scare tactics.

You pay for the inspector's time, not the result, so you will have to pay sooner or later. As for the fault it depends on the wording of the warranty; obviously cars wear in use, the issue is whether yours has worn beyond the condition specified by the warranty - it is roadworthy if it has an MoT.

I can see two options,

Challenge the MoT, or ask the dealer to. They seem to be claiming the advisory is unjustified.
Play on the customer satisfaction, publicity angle. It doesn't sound good if the steering is noticeably worn after only a few thousand miles.

Your help and advice and my persistance has finally paid off and Vines have just called me to say they will now replace the steering rack, under warranty.
So thanks again for all your help, you really do give good advice.
