Hi All,

It is time to replace my Mini's battery however halfords (when popping in my reg number) give me two options:

Halfords Lead Acid Battery HB038

Halfords Lead Acid Battery HB053

Which would you recommend... I have a J reg 998 Neon...

Thanks for you advice in advance.

HB063

The HB038 is barely enough to start my 1275 and struggles with a full charge, if you're replacing your battery might as well go for overkill.

If not alot of people use the battery from a 306 Diesel.

Unless you've got a trade card Halfords batteries are extremely overpriced, try Euro Car Parts and ask for an 063 battery

I have an 1984 Sprite 998 and I bought the HB038 roughly 18 months ago and it's been great. Never had any problems.

Just to add if you buy from Halfords and want the 3 year guarantee to be valid, you must buy a battery that has been recommended for your car by them, even if you know better. I know someone who wanted a battery that wasn't recommended for his car, but was in fact perfectly fine and they actually refused to sell it to him.

An 063 is a common size so is usually similar in price to smaller batteries

Get an 086 for a Pug 306 diesel. Shop around and you can get one for £50 ish. I did. Never had any issues since.

Like has been said Halfords are quite expensive but they have a Bosch silver HSB063 which I was very pleased with when I bought it a week or two ago. I think this is the same battery WillRunci is talking about and if you can find it cheaper then go for it, add one to his recommendation.

That has not been true for me. I have a trade account and never ask for a battery for....... I ask for a ...... Battery, so they never know the fitment and have never asked. I have taken two back and both were changed without question after a simple (and mostly pointless) check. One was a month old, one over two years.
