hi all ive bought a K&N con air filter for a HIF44 carb, and to aid the intake even more i would like a stub stack or ram pipe.

would someone be able to point me in the right direction as i look at ram pipes and the seem to be too long and i dont want to restrict air flow,

and stub stacks just look to small,

All help appreciated

Brad

a stubstack is just a small ram pipe that fits inside a filter

depends whats your looking for? high end hp? low down torque? different lengths have different effects.

im sure cooperman will be along shortly to point you in the right direction.

med stubstack all the from me tho which has the correct eclipse as in the vizard book

in what way does length affect? the longer the higher hp and the shorter for torque or visa versa :P and i'll have to have a read of the bible tomorrow and see whats what :)

MED stub stack, some of the others advertised are poor quality sand cast with near knife edge radius which is bad and not what a stub is all about air flow,
Stub stack is overhaul slightly better across the rev range, longer ram pipes are in a specific range.Ram pipes wont normally fit inside a filter on the carb

From a theoretical point of view;

Ram pipes are used to tune intake length for a specific rpm. Think of a wave moving up and down the pipe, if you get the high pressure at the valve end just after it opens you'll ram more air in, whereas if you get the trough there you get less air.

A stub stack is there to smooth the airflow into the carburettor by creating a more laminar flow, this should curve out and back on itself to at least 90 degrees from the carb intake.

Something like this;

£25 from their website. You may find postage on top or it could be free, who knows!

that stub stack from med will not fit inside a k&n fillter for a hif38/44 unless you butcher it, summerford minis aparantly sell one that dose.

one next to the red R, 3/4 the way down left side.

Or buy the whole MED intake system...stub stack and filter + backplate and send the K&N's back.

The Somerford stack is awful quality, but will fit the k&n. I gave mine a good going over with wet and dry and it came up ok.

^^^ because its massive! You need a tiny one like somerford do. I'm not sure there's another on the market that'll fit the k&n.
