Come on, be real, no one should have there foot on the floor on a new engine!
I like them running with a hint of lean misfire at part throttle during run in.

A hint of lean is not stupid lean in my book.That was the description in the post.
What part load AFR do you run them in at ?

Aha,I hadn't noticed this is back again.I think it's a good thing to do if it may save anyone from the dissapoinment of building a new engine precisely,only to spoil it at the very end.Mine's coming out to sort out these sizes but I'm experimenting with it as is,trying to get a useable carb setting / needle choice ready for initial start up after it's rebuilt so there's no danger of being too rich,but driveable without destroying the engine steadies from being so weak it jumps about.

Oh No I fear I have the same Engine from the same place with the same problem..!!!..as soon as you said SIMON..!!!we have the exact same problem with the exact same engine....we have changed the block..that only leaves the pistons or rings??and after just 2K miles the cam followers and some lobes of the cam were worn out!!
