after a few days tweaking, he still a bit rough running over 3500revs, yesterday I gave him a new vacuum pipe, changed the 2 carb-spacers into 1 thick one, new gaskets new spark plugs, and changed needle from BDL to BBW, Idles smoother and revs more healthy, backfiring through exhaust is nearly gone and through carb is eliminated, weather seems to be better tomorrow so give him a go....see what he does.........either it is/was a vacuum leak, needle isseue, or summit else....will see

well it was finally a lovely day out there, took Huye out today to work, he runs better but still not right,....that is untill I was working on Sunday lunch menu, and was thinking about all the bad symtoms, then it came to me the timing was way out, to much retarded.....put him more in advance and went for a spin.....feck me he is alive finally, no backfiring or hesitating , just need to fine tune him when I am getting home and hopefully thats all it was...deh....timing out,deh....

well he was set at that,the dizzy had moved,....how I don't know other then the fastening bolt was not tight...; not checked with strobe but done by ear,best way, but probably 14-15 BTDC, done the tuning last night after work and finally he drives like he shoud be.....and that ain't slow either....

great long day today on Huye, dash done,carpets in, all good till......rear numberplate lights not working....bad earth. run new lead all good now.... and gave him a good wash.....front number plate still to do and upper window trim.....99%

well he was set at that,the dizzy had moved,....how I don't know other then the fastening bolt was not tight...; not checked with strobe but done by ear,best way, but probably 14-15 BTDC, done the tuning last night after work and finally he drives like he shoud be.....and that ain't slow either....

 

ha i see i have a similar problem with my engine , have had timing at 8 btd and it was pants so set to 12btd and its better but still doesnt seem to be what i expected from the engine 

 

running a newly bored 1310 with kent 246 cam ported 12g2940 head ,also fitted simons new 59d dizzy with lucas gold coil ,and running hif44 carb with bdl needle ,i know i cant give it much beans yet as i need to run it in but it just seems a bit disappointing to what i expected .

 

 

will keep having a tweak here and there and see what i can do .

similar spec indeed, have you tried other needles? runnin a BBW needle and is better, also will try a  BCE tmz

the carb had a bdp in when i got it but changed to bdl seems a bit better but hard to say without nailing it ,i think timing could go a bit more advanced by the feel of it .

each carb has its own profile after a while with one specific needle, when changed to another needle the jet either takes it and plays along or it aint playing ball, in the end I will bring him to a roling road to uptimise his preformance, till then it will have to do be fettling now and then till I am happy with him....

received yesterday a cone filter from littlemissmagic, put him on, tweaked the advance+/- 14Btdc, and valve clearances, all at 12thou, and put back in the BDL Needle, gave him a blast and is running the best sofar.....still not completely there, filled up the tank and see what he does now, used far to much with all the faffing about in the first 100 miles because 25mpg is a bit steep...

as mentioned, a lot of idling and tweeking, that takes juice too,I done a different timing session tonight and set him up like it is a Metro 1300, advanced him to 11 btdc,at 1600revs,switched him off, connected vac hose, and started again,reduced idle to 1000rev, checked timing mark, nd feck me advanced to 22,Must be the new leccy dizzy that trows him further in advance,....so  took him for a spin, now this time he was flying indeed, what I wanted to get out off him....no back firing ,hesitating, so all good for now, trow a few miles on tmz
