Hi I am new to the Mini forum and putting together my first Mini that i bought as a partialy completed project.
I have figured out all the wiring except one connector, i don't have anything to connect to it?
This connector is found by the base of the steering column, it has 3 wires, colored G/W, PU, and R/G.
See pictures below.

What year car?

Possibly a radio connector:
purple is a fused permanent live
green/white is accessory (1st key position)
red/green is dash illumination.

i found one more set of wires behind dash just under carpet.
They are tow green wires one has a brown or orange strips, hard to tell faded.
They both have hard black connector housings on them.
See attached picture, anyone now what these are for?

you might be right but should they not be outside the firewall going down to the transmission?
I will get under the car tomorrow to see if there are some unconnected wires.

thanks,

Denis

If in doubt, clean the wires with something like WD-40 to make the colours more visible, and compare with the diagrams in the Haynes manual. The colours are consistent across all Minis so you don't need the exact diagram for your model, just one that is reasonably close.

What I can be certain of is that green is derived from the white circuit via a fuse and feeds things that are only needed with the ignition on. (White is from the ignition switch). The reverse light switch should have a green live feed, and green-brown outgoing to the lamps. I seem to recall that on some models, the reverse light switch has permanently fitted wires, which come through a grommet and join to the loom inside the car, but the actual details of the wiring changed so often that it is impossible to keep track of every variant.

tigre99 you were correct, i got under the car and found the wiring that should have been passed through the grommet just ahead of the shifter.
Thanks for you help, i have one last wire problem hope you or someone else can help.
My mini has the three pod instrument cluster that sits in the left side of the dash, the wires for the tach had the connectors removed.
There are no markings on the back of the tach, it has one round terminal and one spade terminal.
The wires are white/blk (from coil) and light green/orange (power supply).
Hopefully some one has there instrumnet cluster out and can tell me which wire has the spade and which one has the bullet connector.
see attached pictures :highfive:

I could be wrong but I think the bullet connector goes to the coil (+) and the other spade connector goes to an earth point..

What u can do is touch the wires to the points and start up the car and see if the rev works.. If it doesn't then switch the wires around.. I would rather start the car first and touch the wire for a really short period as you don't want to short or burn anything..

Was hoping to not guess as i don't want to take a chance and damage tach, i know what the wires are for but unfortunatley the connectors were cut off.
Barman that speedo has different connections than the one i supplied picture of.

I have this connector on my (LHD) 1991 Mini too. Someone has spliced the green/white to power the radio.

I cannot see this connector on any wiring diagram, so based on Ethel's answer 2nd in thread, I was thinking of using it to power a 12v cigarette lighter type socket for charging phones and plugging in my tyre inflator. Not lighting fags though.

Where would I find a plug to fit this socket, (preferably with some tails)? My Google-fu is failing me.

why not snip that random old connector off, and solder (or crimp through connectors) onto new lengths of wire that get you to the right location. seems unlikely that having it connected with a plug at that original location will be handy in any way in the future
