Hi there fellow TMF members!

I am attaching at the end my "photobucket progress album of photos" which I hope the hyperlink thingy works for you?

INTRODUCING "Jim" My Mini van restoration project!

155653_2435458781894_1961339364_n1_zpsa5
Photo bucket doesnt currently give the ability to sort albums other than date or alphabetically so my images are not in relative order.557192_2435442461486_822724039_n1_zps766

I am nearing completion now of "Jim" Unfortunately I lost some of my photos but here it is on the last year of my working on him with the above photo last week)

Jim has been off the road for many years and was reshelled in the 1970's and is not a standard van. He has a 1275A+ engine fitted along with brake servo, newer steering column, rear beam axle with coil overs, front metro 4 pot 8.4" vented discs conversion, half leather Recaro seats, walnut dash, steering wheel, gear knob. new 12x5 Performance wheels, new tyres. New wings, inner out a panels, sills, door skins front and backs, door pillar posts, P700 headlights, custom door cards.

"Hopefully" the last jobs to do are:
Repair 2 holes in heel boards, carpets, fit, radio, CB, centre console, wood and picket arches (wings need trimming at front corners as not enough room.
(I might have to fit some hi los on the front) Below photo taken last week (26 Jan 2013)

I have kept a spreadsheet of all the costs of materials (it quickly adds up as anyone that has restored a van will know) I think I am still on the right side though (not that I am thinking of selling Jim) Vans tend to go for decent prices.

Jim will be used to promote my business and also for our Somerset charity fundraising event (raising funds for disabled children's equipment) please see www.retrofundrasing.co.uk or on facebook under retrofundraising.
Hope you can see my photobucket progress photo album below ok.

He lives in Yeovil and is one of very few in the area that still paints and not use cheap vynl stickers. Been doing it since late 50's! I could of gone that route but after spending so much money on the restoration I wanted it to look nice (and it really does)

i'd be really interested in meeting him to discuss a few things. doing a large rebuild on one mini at the moment and would quite like the word "Jet Black" done in the traditional way not with vinyl as it fades. did you then put a lacquer over the top of the sign writing to protect it??

No just elbow grease and polish wax.
He said not to bother with laqur as it tends to peel off. His paints are not avaialble to buy in EU anymore and all come in from USA where lead is still permitted! A warning on the tin says harmful to health, he looked at me and said it done me any harm for well over 50 years of using the stuff!

Come and have a look at Jim if you want.

Cheers

Wonderful!
Are you going to the Bath & West mini show? http://www.theminifo...round-feb-9-10/
Do you know Dave & Maureen (with a nice Cooper, and a van which they escaped from a nasty crash in) in Glastonbury?
