Hi to all,

I am in the process of rust repair around the scuttle/ wing area and have removed a strip of rubbery material from the gap between the wing and scuttle. What do i use to fill this gap? it seems like some sort of acrylic but i don't want to just put anything in there! I guess alot of materials do not take the paint so well?

Any advice gratefuly taken!

Rob

Personally i used Aviation sealant forced down as far a possible then smoothed off. Tiger seal will do the job as well. DO NOT USE FILLER it will crack.

I believe from the factory there was never any sealant down the gap.

Early cars were filled with some kind of sealer, but I have had a later one with the seam left unfilled so water could drain out. I can't say whether that was intentional, or they just forgot at the factory.

It's not a rubber as such, more a sealant that's painted over

Wow nice panel gaps in these pics!! If mine come out like that when finished I will move my bed into the garage.

I need to read your threads now.

I would use DumDum sealant or tiger seal.

Could weld it, then with carefull use of a rotary tool or something, remake a line into it?

No sealant was ever used by the factory.

Our Mini 35 never had any sealant and still doesn't, it's still effectively a deep recess. Can't comment on any other period of build though.
