i don't think that its gonna make any difference apart from a vosa test. there is a couple in our club with this conversion and never had any bother from police or MOT testers.

This has been covered here many times, it's a very common mod but it isn't actually legal or particularly safe. Under construction & use regs, a rear fog lamp has to be at least 100mm away from any brake light, and therefore converting the reverse lamp in the Mk IV tail light cluster isn't legal as it is within 100mm of the brake lamp. Also a rear fog lamp requires a mirrored less behind it to make it brighter than a standard lamp, therefore simply placing a red bulb in or a red lens in front of the reverse lamp is not sufficient.

Also bare in mind that you actually need to declare any such modification to your insurer, otherwise your policy could be invalidated in the event of a claim, and insurers don't tend to be too keen on insuring illegal modifications to safety lamps.

Wouldnt have thought so, should image it makes it a bit more visible, can't see how its any different than having a seperate reverse lamp instead of it being in the light cluster

Those were some I got from Ebay which were junk. They filled with water and the red lense soon went white. I have since replaced them with some old Lucas one which were also found on Ebay. They are the hanging versions of the ones that mk1leg has fitted in his rear vallence.

IIRC, yes it is illegal as it's too far above the road to meet regulations.

Search for the regulations and read them, all your questions will be answered and you'll know where you can position your fog lights.

In regards to the fog lamp on the parcel shelf, i asked about this as i have deseamed bumpers so the fog light bracket looked very odd hanging on the valance with no bumper.... apparantly it is illegal to have it within the cabin, i can only imagine because if somehow it got disconnected from it's bracket it could blind the driver as they are very bright? i aim to make mine flush in the valance like the pictures on page 1, atm it's hanging in the centre on a custom made bracket.
