Use it only on a scrap engine, using castrol R is like putting castor oil in the engine :P

I only ever use Millers 20w50 Classic Mini Oil, the one that actually says "Classic Mini Oil" on the bottle

http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3f2100a8f6

Does the job great, makes the gear changes feel nice and smooth, waaaay better than the crud 10w40 that must of been in there before!

Does anyone want to pipe up on behalf of us automatic owners?

20w50 is a no no.

Too harsh on the clutch plates apparently.

You need 10w40 for the automatic
Comma sonic 20w50 is the best oil for running in as its above 2000ppm zinc content and has low detergents.

"shameless plug"

And the OP asked for 'the best oil'. That is Valvoline VR1 20w50 now that Kendall 20w50 is NLA in the U.K.

if anyone wants any cheap give me a shout as i've got some to spare ;-)

AFAIK (from previous advice) most additives are snake oil. But they may aid in prolonging your engine life when it is hanging!

FWIW, I was going to use Valvoline VR1 20W50 in my Mini or Millers Mini 20W50 oil. However, when I spoke to a certain oil seller he recommend 10W40 motorbike oil (since motorbikes also share the gear and engine oil, believing that the 20W rating does not provide adequate cold start protection and that the 50 weight is too thick for an otherwise good condition engine. What are your thoughts on this?

for spark plugs i use ngk bp6es

With the op asking witch plugs a 1275 spi, they would be wanting the bpr6es. Being as they have built in resistors and are more suited to electronic ignition the spi would be fitted with.

i stand corrected

does this mean i should be using bpr6es as i have electronic ignition on my 998??

1500ppm..........

The pds from 2011 clearly states:
T.B.N. 8.0 mg KOH/g
Sulphated Ash 1.3%
Zinc 0.20%
Calcium 0.26%
Phosphorus 0.19%

They're used to change oil specs frequently, causing a lot of confusion ie: castrol XL was originally a healty 1400 ppm, now its just 800 if you got a lucky batch..
So probably sonic was 1500 and then updated to 2000ppm in 2011, although some say anything more than 1800 is not very reccomendable

Does zddp cause a problem with clutch plates in an auto seeing as they are permanently submerged in the oil?
