best oil ive used is morris gold film 20w50

i used to use 10w/40 but after trying morris 20w/50 the gear change is noticeably "smoother"

my prefrance would be morris 20w/50 gold film, here is a few other oils ive tried in the mini and my opinion
  • halfords 10w/40: cheap, does the job for low milage use, gear change still a bit notchy.
  • castrol 10w/40: abit more expensive than the halfords 10w/40, but performs the same

  • halfords 20w/50: good for everyday use and holds good pressure. its thicker than the 10w40 which is ideal as the a series uses the engine oil as gear oil too. gear changes feel "smoother".
  • morris 20w/50 gold film: excellent oil which you can feel in the gear changes as well as being cheaper than castrol. £16 from the local motor factors. oil pressure noticeably achieved quicker that the halfords 20w50 on cold start-ups.

bear.

Another vote for Morris golden film 20/50. Used that after the Halfords classic 20/50. Much better gear changes and the car goes well. Brilliant value oil.

Iv just read on an old "oil" thread on here, that its a bit harsh in winter,

And to qoute cooperman
" always use a good quality 20w50 all year and have done for over 20 years without any problems. Castrol Classic is excellent as it Millers and Valvoline.
One important thing when starting a Mini, or any older engine with thicker multigrade mineral oils is to never start the engine with the clutch pushed down to avoid not loading up the crankshaft thrust bearings until the oil is flowing.
With the Mini the gearbox is the big issus, as 'Tiger' so rightly says, and a thinner or synthetic oil is really not suitable."

any input peeps?

I think the general consensus is a good 20W50 oil with decent ZDDP content and change your oil regularly.

Millers as far as I know are the only company who make two oils specifically for the Classic Mini which also include gearbox protection additives (EP additives).

I use Millers CTV personally and it runs sweet!
Swiftune also recommends the CTV20W50 http://www.swiftune....ic-mini-5l.aspx

And if you do end up buying it these are some of the best prices for the CTV 20W50 (£37.99) that I've found.

20W/50 is the correct oil to use.

Anyone tried Daytona 20W/50? Comes in a blue bottle. Is it any good?

+1

As for oil I always use Millers CTV 20w50 (semi synthetic)

It was especially designed for Mini engines, its not cheap but very good!

I get it from http://www.opieoils....engine-oil.aspx

The Millers Mini Oils have EP gearbox protection additives and also have a greater performance profile than the Pistoneeze oil.

The pistoneeze specs

The classic mini oil specs

Ipod I know where you are coming from though, many companies do re-label the same product and sell it for extra money.

With the op asking witch plugs a 1275 spi, they would be wanting the bpr6es. Being as they have built in resistors and are more suited to electronic ignition the spi would be fitted with.
