If you're going to do a job, do it properly to the right standards :-)

Well as it would seem that Austin actually used a version of duct tape to cover the holes as standard for some time, then it could be argued that the use of duct tape is in fact doing it properly and to the right standards!!

They also used duct tape to cover the back of the captive bolts that go though the toe board to the rear subframe so it's not surprising!

So Mr D...F you had your Belgium import from new then? Or maybe it has been messed with after leaving the factory. I was telling the OP about Minis and other cars made in Longbridge, not Seneffe. Longbridge cars with wind up windows were all built with proper polythene water shedders attached with butyl. This meant that in principle they were water tight and they could be serviced more easily. Did you ever see the build of Minis in CAB1 in Longbridge?

As some of you will know, i worked in the motor trade from 1969 and i can assure you that some minis had a duct tape material fitted on the inner door frame from new.

As a side note some had the plastic membrane sheet stuck on with duct tape and no adhesive.

Thanks all, think this has answered my question, there needs to be something there - I have nothing currently! so will be ordering the plastic sheets.

I have become fedup over the years of carrying out the abovemeans of sealing the doors other than with the membrane. In the end i enquired about having the original clear membranes remade with the adhesive backing so that you peel off and fit. Had the holes cut out for handle, winderand interior lock. They are 'handed' so that the adhesive is on the correct side. Expensive to have set upand made but had a 'run'made to try and reduce the costs. Found it worth doing though for the cars in my business as I seem to be forever,of late, replacing the door glass supports and finding the door cards soaked beacause little or nothing is left behind them after years of being taken on and off .
