Unless its a very late set in which case it may be 34mm as I've found out recently - chances are though it will be 1 5/16".

If the cv does not come out easily, then as said before, is fubar so there's no point being delicate with it... the only part of the unit you will be needing is the hub.

An alternative to using a hub puller is to attach a wheel, with a large penny washer or plate over the hole and tightening up the wheel nuts

I'm confused - you state at the beginning you've removed the big nut but now you're asking what size socket you need??!!

If that's not off there's no way this thing will come apart.

1 of them came off realy easily, but on the second disk setup - it wont budge, the first came off with an adjustable wrench, but that aint working on the second. so i need to know the socket size

Are you sure? I'm relatively sure mine are (It was a few weeks since I was playing with them, but as you point out, I could be thinking of the rears). If not, then they bally well should be! :w00t:

if they were handed then you would have to buy n/s and o/s cv joints!!

which as far as i know you can't!!

plus i am sure i read a thread the other day and Dan said that they weren't

Yea I made the same mistake a few days ago and said the fronts were handed before Dan and miniboo kindly reminded me they weren't!

And I agree, they should be! :w00t:

I've got a similar problem - need to take the hub off to replace the bearings but there doesn't seem to be eny way to get the CV joint out of the bearings - I have a replacement so I have been belting it with a lump hammer but it still hasn't moved (so far I have had the nut on so I can put it back on the road to drive to a gargae if need be). The disk came off easily, but the hub will not separate - any thoughts on how to sort it?

Cheers

Andy

Just to add - I took the driveshaft and hub off today so I could get at things better, but still no joy with getting the shaft out of the bearings. I tried all sorts, in the end welding a bead onto the bearing inner to really heat it up in the hopes it would then move, but even whilst it was still really hot belting it with a lump hammer wouldn't shift it!

Taking the bits to the local gargae tomorrow to see if they can separate it, if not I will have to get a new hub :-*

As Miniboo said ages ago, you need to take out the taper washer that is still in the flange in your picture. If you don't, it will not come apart.
