Just to keep you up to speed,
mini_luke took the new engine with him for the rebuild that same day, He phoned me a couple of days later after stripping the engine to say the block was actually a 1380, Not what i was intending but never mind a 1380 i shall now be having
, He took the block to have it re honed, refaced, crank polish, By the time he got the block back we had already started on the shopping list "it was quite large lol" some of the components being a new swiftune sw5 cam, big valve head "ported", all the new seals gaskets & bearings etc, oil and fuel pump, clutch, duplex chain, rad and hoses, plus loads loads more and the gearbox got sent off to guessworks too, Theres loads more but i would be here all night,
And as i was converting from an auto to a manual there was PLENTY of trips made to minispres in Oldbury belive me lol,
Yeterday was the engines first fire up since the rebuild and Today was the first test drive, and who was parked up in the next street "traffic police lol" shame they wasn't there when Luke was rammed of the road in a hit and run a few weeks earlier in his spanking new polo by a yobbo in a car with false plates,
I had to drive directly past them with my mini with its number plates in the windows, no back bumper or arches and it is covered in patches of primer and dusty as hell, They didn't come after me to check me out so the test run began just a nice and easy 10 minutes around the local back streets just to make sure all was fine, Turns out all seems to be good, The engine is holding good oil pressure and there seems to be no smoke at all from the rear, After returning we did notice a trail of fluid the mini had left coming from my drive leading down the street, smelling like fuel It seems i may have a sticky float valve in the carb, I shall be checking this theory tomorrow as time was getting on and the mrs was waiting for me to go pick the youngest up from her aunt`s,
Anyway while luke had the engine i started prepping the car for paint, Luke had already built up for me and fitted a brand new front sub frame complete with new drilled and grooved discs and mintex pads, he had also replaced my 2 outer sills and re skinned the drivers door with heritage, T
he prep is nearly there ive just got the 2 doors to primer and that's about it for the body work too, So now the car is nearly drivable the next thing on my list is the paint,
A trip around the local paint shops for a few quotes is next on the cards and hopefully the mini will be out and about for when we get a bit of sun
,
So let me thank all of the forum members involved here on my thread again from the start to the finish especially to shifty and neil
and of cause mini-luke for all his hard work and effort with fantastic results over the last few weeks he has even been out in the snow at times working on the mini, Cheers lads
