Well today dad and I started on the passengers floor, so Started by taking out the seats carpets and other bits and bobs, and also the dash.
Posted Image

We were going to just replace the front floor, but as you know minis always surprise you!
Both front floors are dented where they've been jacked up on.
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
In the rear bit of the floor there was a "bit" of rust that we could see under the bitumen. So we chipped a bit off. >_< Most of the rusty holes had been "repaired" with some seam sealer squirted in
Posted Image
Turned out it was quite rusty :ohno:, So I went over to the drivers side where there was a bit of black sticky stuff (like on the inside of quarter panels have), so I thought must be covering a patch, I was wrong ...
Posted Image
Posted Image
Thats right a stanley blade, No need to weld when you use them ;D
So we took all of the bitumen off, I found the best way to give it a couple of sharp hits and get a chisel/scraper under it and it'll come off in large chunks.

Front floor with a few patches.

Drivers side

nice hole in the rear bench.

Passengers side
Nicer hole in the rear bench :mmkay:

So we set about repairing it.
Cut it out.
Posted Image
New peice made (crap photo)
Posted Image
Wire brushed and painted in my favourite colour :proud:
Posted Image
and welded in.
Posted Image

Wasn't expecting all of that really :geek: , but it'll get cut out and new welded in.

Any comments welcome.

Compared to some it's not that bad, I'm glad I enjoy welding , It also needs a patch in the boot and also the front panel.

Yep, and they will be staying, on the passengers side the original one had been taken off then that welded on, not sure on the drivers yet.

That's your choice however you have already cut two patches out of the inner sill so i will put money on there will be more rust under there somewhere.

I'm sure there will be more but I don't think it's "that bad". We're just trying to get it back on the road again. It'll be stronger that it was with the rust and seam sealer anyway.

Lovely neat patches Alex, but I have to agree with Sonik, you will probably have more problems in the near future and will be better taking them off and having a damn good look. If you put them back then up to you but would be a shame to finish and have rust quickly again.

Cheer's graham, the patches went in very well. If it was a proper project with a full strip down etc then we probably would, But we don't have enough time and it's on a budget, for the time being it'll do :D .

This weekend we continued with the floors.
Cut out the rust where the stanley blade was.
Posted Image
New piece welded in.
Posted Image
Cut out the other bit of rust and made a new bit.
Posted Image
Welded in.
Posted Image

Cut out and welded in a new piece by the rear bin.
Posted Image

Cut out the passenger side rear seat corner.
Posted Image
and welded in new.
Posted Image
Then the other side.
Posted Image

We also welded the sill to the passengers side repair that we did last weekend and gave it a paint. We still have to grind most patches down.

Any comments welcome.

Todays work.
Rust on the front panel.
Posted Image
cut it out to reveal the rust behind it.
Posted Image
Posted Image
Made a new peice out of card
Posted Image
And cut out of metal and bent it to shape.
Posted Image
Cut out the peice behind, made a new peice and tacked it on.
Posted Image
Fully welded
Posted Image
And a bit of a grind down and coated it in kurust.Posted Image
While I was doing that Dad was cutting out the rest of the rust in the back drivers side floor.
Posted Image
Posted Image
Took a while to do it as the brushes in the grinder broke.
We should be able to make a new peice and weld it in this thursday, as well as the other front bit that I made.

Any comments welcome.

Alex
