And she passed!
There are a few things we need to look at like the some surface rust but thats not too bad.

I can't remember what day but I was parked up by Fitzgeralds up walker lines ind estate in a red reno scenic. It was lovely to see her go by but broke my heart. Did you go Riv Run? we were there.

Oh right, I was getting a new auto advance pipe for it as the rubber end snapped . We did but left around 10.45 and didn't go in lulu, she's got a rattle which we think is the idle gear bearing, thrust bearing or timing chain, so thats another job which may require the engine to be taken out.

I got it from ebay, type in something like "light reminder", Around 5 pounds I think. it has 2 wires orange and green, one goes to the light switch and the other goes to the door switch, I can't remember witch way around it goes though. the intructions on the back says which way though. they wire it differently too, they put it on the ignition IIRC.

So friday I brought lulu into the garage and started stripping the engine bay down, taking out the rad, alternator etc and draining the fluids. then yesterday I had the morning in the garage trying to get the y peice manifold part off the exhaust ... with no luck, so Dad did that when he come home ( we now need to repair the 2 into 2 exhaust part . Then today I set about splitting the bottom ball joints, the drivers was quite easy but the passengers wasn't at all, in the end we used the hammer in type fork splitter rather than the type with the bolt. so then this evening we got the engine out.
found where the oil leak is coming from.
thats about the good pictures I got, the rest are just of where parts go. I did clean up some parts ready for painting like the starter motor slave cylinder bracket and radiator bracket. Tomorrow after work I'm planning on degreasing it so there may be an update tomorrow, We're hoping to get the parts on friday to replace the bearings and that.

Last week Dad and I started work on the engine, Dad gave it a degrease and clean and we started removing the clutch and removed the second casing and timing cover. on friday we took off the gearbox, inspected it and replaced the idler gear bearing then refitted it.
then we moved onto the other idler bearing, this is how we did it:
Knocked out the rollers and cage by sticking screwdriver between the cage and bearing body.(imagine it's in the casing)
Then got a longish bolt, a thick washer which we cut the sides off to the size of the holw
it can then be put on the bolt and slid into the the bearing.
then get a plate/bar to got over the caseing and wind the nut with a few washers onto it, you may need to put a spacer in like my pic.
then we started cleaning the engine bay.
dropped the subframe
couple of bits of rust on the inner wing
which I cut out and repaired.
Dad wirebrushed and kurusted it and sprayed it with zinc spray and I painted it with silver hammerite.
we fitted a new oil pump
and painted the engine with yellow hammerite.
and then we fitted the bits that I painted black.
I had to weld up the diff exhaust bracket as it cracked
Then we set about changes the front brake pipes as they were perished, which was made easer by having the engine out.
so then we refitted the engine and I fitted all the parts.
I forgot to fit the gearstick rubber (again, see the bottom of page 1 ), the old one only lasted a year, it had split on every squashy bit.
so sunday evening we got her running and monday night we fitted the bonnet and other bits
Then as we had trouble getting the manifold off the 2 into 1 bit we had to make new pipes to fit as the others were mangled. We done this with some 1.5mm sheet and bent it around a bit of ali pipe we had that was the perfect size, cut it to length and got the circumference right and welded them onto the 2 into 1 pipe, which I think they turned out quite well, unfortuanly I was welding pretty much blind as our auto dimming mask didn't work so had to use the hand held one with the dark glass. we fitted the manifold to the engine first and test fitted it a few times before welding the pipe on on to make sure it was right to be able to slide in each other.
so sunday evening we got her running and monday night we fitted the bonnet and other bits and had a quick test drive which went fairly well apart from the speedo not working and I think a spanner that I made which fell down the back of the engine after just making it fell off the car while driving. So tuesday we undone the speedo cable to find I hadn't fitted it correctly so we fitted a new cable and works perfectly now.
then dad was reading a book and noticed that the oil pressure light should come on when the ignition is turned on, it hadn't done this in our ownership or a couple of years before that i'd expect. so traced it down to be te pressure switch it's self after removing the speedo (again due to the speedo cable) luckily our local motor factors could get one to us that day so fitted that and
we have a light
It's good to be able to drive again after getting lifts to work for a few weeks.
It's not in exact order due to photobucket liking to muddle up my photos, but it's roughly in order.
cheers Alex
