A quick update of what I did this weekend...

I finished the front off which was the main thing, fitted the a-panels and attached the inner wings to the front panel, sooooooo all the welding bar the roof is complete :D pretty happy with that!!

Sooo, a bad day today! I got the paint and was pretty excited to get some colour on it :-) But nothing really goes to plan, I gave the correct paint codes for Black Tulip and have somehow ended up with a dark maroon/magenta colour, it looked pretty similar in the can, although the paint code was different...

It's a fair bit darker in reality but for some reason the photos show it up lighter, but it's still wrong :(

Tomorrow will be spent on the phone, trying to sort out some correct paint!! If I hadn't gone to the effort of trying to build it as standard I would probably keep this colour as it's pretty cool :-)

Oh no, yeah paint looks pretty cool but definetly not black tulip. I had some issues getting it mixed years ago if I remember, they first gave me aconite which is purple but lighter, I think its from 1973 on just after they stopped using black tulip. The paint shop got it right in the end though.

What kind of paint are you using out of interest? Cellulose?

Really quick progress by the way, wish I could get more time for my project, still welding after 1 year.

Keep up the great work.

You're correct! Aconite was the replacement for Black Tulip.

I'm using 2 pack paint, I have all the proper breathing kit

Thanks, I must admit this is moving pretty fast for a mini project, I do however have a few others waiting so I'm attempting to sort them, I'm having my old clubman resprayed in a month or so as well! :P I'll do yours for you if you like ;-)
