I am pretty sure mx5s are a monocoque, most things are nowadays as its a bit old fashioned to have a body and a chassis. but nether the less this will be an awesome project no matter what the numberplate says :)

Put into Google 'MX5 Power plant frame'

Ooooooh! Taught me something, that is very interesting and opens up a lot of possibilities.......

It is a very interesting car and a great car to base a kit on.
I am not sure I would call it a separate chassis but the 2 subframes are connected.
The chassis on my Elan +2 is referred to by the factory as a 'subframe'.

they did blatantly copy the elan for the mk 1 and the "chassis" do look similar.

yes i see now

yes as long as you don't modify that you can do what you like to the body as it carries no points and keep the MX5's registration

although i might confuse the MOT man or a copper doing a PNC check

Can i not change the name of the car on the logbook? If i was to keep it as an mx5 with the points for iva ive on changed the body, as long as i didnt change any more, brakes, suspention, steering i wouldn't need an iva test, then i could get a number plate from dvla to make it look like its on an old reg. The mini shell is a 80s shell so i could get a plate with W at the end.

DVLA leaflet INF26 goes through it.

I think you have at least 8 points with the MX5 bits.

This is insane! Will the standard front fit over or will it need a bit of work?
