Hi me and my husband have been trying to remove some primer which has been put over the top of the original colour paint and primer on his mini which he got for xmas, although old owner said it was ready to paint its def not and the roof has even been spray painted ! We have been using sand paper and then had a go with a grinder tonight just wondered if anyone had any tips to make it quicker /easier or to get the best finish? Or if anyone can rrecommend attachments fornthr grinder or drill to do a bigger area quicker ? Thanks a lot Suzanne

+1 although it does take time. DO WEAR GOGGLES and gloves. Use the twisted wire cup ones like this

Use Upol etch primer. You can get this from Halfords. Do remember most primers are porous so keep water off.

I had eleven layers of paint on Project Erms roof and it took me a solid day to remove it all. And i did it with a twisted wire cup and a DA sander. All very messy.

I think this has about 6 very dusty lol we get through top layers quite easily but original colour an pale yellow and grey primer layers I'm guessing are better quality and takes a bit more elbow grease! :)

i used a mix of paint stripper, DA sander with 80 grit and the wire wheel on the grinder (for in the gutters! but be carefull of it snatching). Make sure you clean the gutters right back to clean metal as people fill these areas often. :)

The old owner had even sprayed over stickers of websites on the roof and under rear windows on both sides the car wasn't even that bad til he sprayed over it!

There is a specialist firm close to me in Preston called ribble technology that remove paint by putting it in an oven over night as a bare shell.
They have just done a mk2 and a pickup. They'll put a fancy primer on afterwards too of needed.
I'm not an associate of the firm but they've just done a job for my gaffer and was very impressed.

Best get one for a grinder, drill ones are painfully slow and knacker the drill as they aren't meant for side loads
