Hey guys, I got my mini a few months ago just before the winter and had her out about a month. She was in fairly good nick. The engine currently is a rebuilt standard 1275 Spi. Bodywork etc is good nick.

The Current BHP is 54bhp & 70lbs torque. (had on rolling road)

The plan is a 1380 fast road engine: Work being carried out in mid January time.

The 1st thing I bought engine wise was a stage 1 kit with the fletcher dtm central exhaust. (I know, I know, bad exhaust for performance). Car looked great from the back end but actually was slower top end!

After stage 1 kit (fletcher exhaust):- 56BHP (+2) & 75lbs (+5) torque

To be honest I was expecting about 5 bhp extra but I believe the exhaust is at fault here. The car struggles to reach 90 where before it was no probs!! Now it maxs out at 85 and that’s it!! Something doesn’t seem right here so exhaust needs changed!!

I bought a NEW full stage 3 kit from ebay from a buyer who bought it but never put it on. I got it at a steal for £700! This came with the stage 3 head and 1:5 roller rockers and the proper twin box side exit RC40 exhaust and manifold and filter.

So off came the fletcher exhaust and on went the RC40

I aint drove the car since to be honest as she is a weekend summer dry day car.

My latest buy is a uprated clutch, lightened flywheel, 4 pin diff, gaskets, etc.

The guys doing the car will install all items including a SW05 cam, rebore the engine to 1380 and also replace anything in the gearbox that needs replaced. Currently needs new 1^st & 2^nd sincro.

Hoping to get about 90+ BHP and whole pile of torque!!!

When I send the car up mid January time, im going to get another RR session with the RC40 exhaust to see if it makes much difference. 2 extra BHP isn’t great to be fair from a kit that claims an extra 20% increase. Id be happy with 10% lol.

thats going to be a very nice mini! sounds like you have it all in hand and very well planned!! that exhaust would have detracted hourseys, just not a good performance exhaust becuase of the huuge bore and twin pipes. RC40's are exellent. who did you buy it from maniflow are the best in the buisness but seeing as you already have an RC40 there is no reason to change again!

may be a good idea also to have some kind of mappable ignition? would really help the engine work and you will then be able to get it running real nice and screw out as much power as you can!

would be a good idea to look into the capabilities of the MPi ignition system, and what is on the market 8)

Am thinking about a mappable ecu but I don't know what to get. How much money would u b talking 4 1? Am guessing £600ish lol

Il c what this man says. He seems to think wit current spec, it won't need new mappable ecu but wel c how car runs after the works finished.

Possibly getting a emerald ecu to add to the mix as it seems to b plug and play and very good set up.

Will def help with throttle response and get fuelling 100% so hopefully bit more horses :)

Due to my consideration of changing the ECU, I now can also change the throttle body/inlet manifold which is the most restrictive part of the engine. Very tempted althou it will prob cost me another £1000 more than what I expected.

Decisions, decisions. Would be 1 dam fast mini thou! :)

It is generally accepted that with the standard ECU, you'll struggle to hit 90bhp. I'd definitely consider an aftermarket ECU, have you looked at the specialist components stuff? They do a kit which includes a new throttle body, intake manifold plus a fully mappable ECU, and a load of other stuff for just under a grand...

Looks like a nice little build. The thing with mini's is, you'll always find something else you need to buy.

Yea am lookin into sc throttle body kit. £800 thou so il see what my guy says about it.

Def goin with emerald ecu plug and play. Supposed to be best ecu on market, easiest to use etc and of course no messing bout with wires etc too much

The plan is still mid jan time. Can't wait. Really excited to get work done! Yea there def always is something else to buy lol

It's so frustrating to have to wait!! Ain't drove the car in prob couple months and have everything I need to get the car done. The other man is buying everything else to put on.

Jus need to save bit more for the inlet manifold and throttle body kit. Def putting on the emerald ecu.

If funds r low, I can put this kit on another time as the work can b done when the engines in the car. But trying to get all done at once!

As the popular phrase on this forum and with al mini owners is: - she will go like Sh** off a shovel! Lol

Hi why don't you use the Ecu from the Specialist components kit??? I have it on my car and it's very easy to use and very good. The throttle body setup is awesome and they do a wiring loom that fits easy and perfectly but make sure you have insulation on the bulkhead as it gets loud at Full throttle.









It's a really good kit I bought for the wifes mini and makes fuelling changes so easy. We got improved torque, more power and more mpg. The 998 gets 45-52mpg average. The fuel tank just lasts for ever!!! Next up is a supercharger.

Il need to ask my engine specialist about it. He says the emerald is the best in the market. He's worked with all those ecus but il ask him about this 1 to see what his thoughts are.
