@Valve Bounce.

it does seem the way in most independent garages. It certainly didn't feel that hostile at the Dealers, but I suppose they're a bit more suited to an apprentice as everything including the training is done by them.

Hence why after I've finished my IMI or even before I'll keep looking for a dealer apprenticeship rather than a independent garage. I'd rather be treated like **** at VW than treated like **** at a place where it's not worth me turning up if you see what i mean.

That kind of behaviour really isn't needed, there is a difference between banter and just plain SCUM.

i must say some days it was a bit rubbish but ive had my only lift for 18 months now and really enjoy my work. the best it is when you manage to out smart the people that trained you, ive had a few recently that have got passed onto after others couldn't work out what was wrong then ive diagnose and repaired them. its a really good feeling and the gloating/windup is even better

Thanks for the replies everybody.

I know that it was right for me to leave, and I know that I had no intentions of staying for even a few months longer than I did, let alone for the course of the apprenticeship, so I didnt want to waste anymore time.

It's down to people to have their own opinions and I'm fine with that, I'd do the same, but I'm the one who experienced it and had to deal with it, and decide, I'm the one that's getting a fair bit of stick from my parents for not sticking with it, I'm the one who is now unemployed, etc. But I dont want to wish years of my life away doing something that I hate, as you all say, 'when I grew up and did my apprenticeship...' many followed by stories of just 'putting up with it', everybody says life is too short so why look back on my earlier years remembering something that I hated?

I have the basis for everything that I need in life, I just need to find out what I want career wise now. If anything I've learned that it isn't servicing and repair.

I have an interview at Morrisons this Friday at 1pm so hopefully I'll get that, it'll keep me going until I find out what I really want, even if thats in months or years.

Thanks again for the replies! :-)

Well hopefully that's not what you want for the rest of your life!

But if you think you made the right choice, that's the important thing. It's a good point you make about life being short and looking back having hated the time. You're young and with no ties, you should be enjoying life not waking up thinking today is another **** day, because all that will happen is you get home in the evenings and be in a **** depressed mood.

Just bear in mind that you will have to do **** jobs as part of any career. Don't mistake a couple of **** jobs for a bad career etc and you should be ok.

I done supermarket work once when i got made redundant from a previous mechanic job, although the work generally tends to be ok, it got a bit repetetive, and not something id want to do all the time, plus i found management to be utter pricks. Still managed to get a good few money making schemes going with a few others, lol.

I am still looking for the job I want to do for the rest of my life and I'm 40!!

I don't do jobs that I hate; like you say "life is too short".

Keep your pecker up.

Jeezz, where have all the cowboys gone.

It is everyones choise what they put up with or stick at but I am picking up the underlying message of "oh it's a bit hard work or mommy the big boys are picking on me"!!!

Supermarket work may suit you better as there is a good social life and fair working conditions but the work is boring and the pay is *******

Still paying the bills. ;D Noah in the last 20 years I have had more than 20 jobs. To me a job is something that pays the bills and gives me a bit of money to do what I want to do like fixing Minis. I work with and meet lots of people everywhere I work who moan about their jobs but are too scared to leave. To me if I a not happy I leave. If you are good at what you do you will find work.

At the end of the day if you are spending at least 7 hours of your day doing something you need to enjoy it or you will be miserable.

I did an apprenticeship but now I do something that is not related to this or my Degree. But I get at least twice as much as I would have if I was working in a garage. :highfive: I have also worked in a shop in the past.

Get used to it, thats generally what apprentices do.

If you're getting a decent training then the boss is entitled to make money off you, its that that keeps you employed. The rewards come at the end when you're trained.

Stick at it and don't get yourself down by moaning about it, its a better option than spending your life stacking shelves or asking people if they want fries with that!!

Beats lining up at the job center to collect government funded dole though huh? I'd rather work for my money whilst I'm in my teenage rebellion nobody understands me years :gimme:

40 hours a week asking the wonderful population of Chatham if they'd like to go large and eat in... I'm the one paying for my sins Sean!
