Wheeler Dealers is i think the best car restoration program currently running, although, Fast & Louds pretty fun and i used to like a car is born etc

is that a joke? anything that is vinyl wrapped in my eyes is rubbish. i mean look at that bubble effect vw van YUCK and the carbon fibre mini YUCK lol

I'll admit that sometimes they are awful, but like i said, "i think its the best that is CURRENTLY on the telly"

lol point taken, i just feel they do take alot of short cuts in that program...............and what annoys me most is they never count man hours in the budget

yup i think with most resto work labour is nearly always going the be the highest cost, so its hardly hard to come out on top if its free. and they still barely scrape a profit sometimes. feel bad for the fella

A lot of people say that about Wheeler Dealers, but they are totally missing the point of the program.

The whole idea behind it is to show home mechanics how they can buy cars, do them up themselves, and sell them for a profit. A DIY mechanic wouldn't be counting their man hours, they would just finish the car, sell it for as much as they could get, and put the rest in their back pocket. So that's what they do on Wheeler Dealers.

That's why Ed regularly mentions what a garage would charge for particular jobs, and how much money he's saving by doing it himself.

Also used to really love the is born series's, Mark Evans is a real good presenter and the stuf he built I really liked - Apart from the trike

My dads friend sprayed the Jaguar E Type he did up, and apparently in real life Mark Evans is a c*ck who really loves himself! he is a good presenter though, I will never tire watching "An MG is Born"

you are missing a key point here..............where on earth would a normal person get the time to do all this DIY mechanics to make a 'profit'. As people have full time jobs to hold down, i mean if it were that easy we would all do it, i can do alot of DIY stuff but to sell me car would always be a loss £££ wise. and even if he find the time to do all the DIY after work and on weekends what do you think the rent is for a workshop that size? and the cost of tools?

True Ed finishes the cars quickly. However any DIY mechanic could complete the same amount of work by giving up a few hours each weekend for several weeks. I would be happy to have such a project on the go for a few months, if I knew I could make a few quid out of it.

Yes he has a big well equipped workshop. However I have a garage at my house, and a basic tool kit which enables me to complete virtually any job that Ed does. True some of his tools (such as his four post lift) make things a bit easier, but I make do with my trolley jacks and axle stands, and can still get the job done.

well if you feel you can make a decent profit crack on. i think most of us have enough work on our plates with jobs, trying to keep on top of our own minis, and then famlies. i dont think a couple £100 quid is profit for 50+hours work. its less than minimum wage, the only Plus i can see is the experience of it all. another factor is all the sourcing and driving around its not done by edd, and some of the deals im 99% sure only happen for the cameras.

Well if you don't have the time to do it yourself that is fair enough. However the fact remains that the program has always been aimed at DIY mechanics, which is why labour rates are never included.
