Looks fantastic. Go with black or silver roll cage. And what exactly did you do to the parking brake?

Just looked over the details of me old mini monte...with boot floor cut out not replaced, fibreglass clubman front end and bootlid, fully stripped out with rollcage it weighed 530kg with an A series. If running the level of carbon fibre you are stating, your going to be closer to the 500kg that you may think if not lower....
Not sure how much more the Promotive kit weighs to a standard subframe, but the weighed lost via running r1 compared to A-series wont be far off compensating that if not a gain in weight shed in the process

Love to know the finished weight so can see Pwr2Wght ratio

Hows the progress going over there??

I was curious about what the weight will end up being, so I figured since I got the KAD front brakes installed last night (pic this weekend) and I could put it down on wheels, I'd do so and have a look see. As it sits now, the car corner weights come in as follows:

Front left: 287.6lbs
Front right: 305.1lbs
Rear left: 88.3lbs
Rear Right: 102.1lbs

...without the major items remaining of passenger seat with brackets and mounting hardware (17lbs), front end (14lbs), passenger harness (3 lbs), dash (est 8lbs with switchgear), fuel line and brake line plumbing (10lbs budget), miscellaneous brightwork (10lbs budget), and windows (poly sides and rear, glass front, all together 15lbs)

for a grand total target finished (dry weight of)....wait for it....860lbs....!!!!

Let's say I add another 20lbs of junk that I haven't accounted for and the car will still weigh 880lbs, or 400kg....that's one lightweight Mini...

Cheers,

That's very light, well done!

Some people on here don't believe its possible to do a 400kg mini but I do especially a fwd bike mini

Cheers
David

Thanks David...

The whole genesis behind this build was to see how light I could practically get a street / track Mini...I was originally thinking of doing it on a Minus shell too...would have saved a bunch more weight going that route, but I think it's cooler in a way to use a steel structure car and end up at the weight this one is looking like it will be...

So who needs to spend GBP40000 on one of these:

http://www.topgear.c...ests/01/01.html

...when you can get a similar power to weight ratio and get the cool factor of a Mini for a third of the cost!

I should be able to claim pretty nigh on 400BHP / tonne when it's all said and done...or almost the same as a Ferrari F50...

Aric,

I'm curious about a couple suspension pieces you have. In the pic below, is the upper shock mount (circled in red) the same as this one offered from MiniSpares?: http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=34805

And where did you get the lower shock mount (circled in blue)?

Thanks,
Joe

Sorry dont want to answer a question aimed for someone els, but they are normally different for coil overs, theres a few kits on mini sport you could have a look at:

Joe,

The upper and lower mounts are bespoke ones that comes as part of the Spax coilover kit - I got my kit from Huddersfield IIRC...

the car will be used for road blasting and track days mainly...the really serious car is my turbo'ed hayabusa Monte Carlo...:P

The roof is actually painted black...I considered a carbon roof, and it would have been less body work (black paint shows ripples quite easily) and less weight, but I haven't known of anyone who is super happy with their carbon roof to be honest...

Pics will be coming soon - I'm in Greece finishing up a few week's holiday as we speak - leave for the states on Thursday...

thats a little greedy, monte carlo busa turbo and a promotive

Im still raising my funds for my beasty build which wont be far off this soec...want to do as much as I can in a small space of time so dont bodge to save funds.

going for an 7k budget from shell base build (hopefully) - if save money on 2nd hand bargains, more performance enhancing components will be added

when you add piccys of the promotive, could you sneak some in of the monte....

I've just read through this whole project... this is going to be one very impressive motor when finished!
Can't wait for the final power to weight ratio!
Are you still not having a reverse gear?

Ben.
