Hi
was thinking of fitting a sump guard to my mini project is this needed? or am I barking up the wrong tree I do live in an area with plenty a pot hole and speed bump and the lane up to my house isn't the best my main motivation for one how ever is the look please let me know if you think I'm bonkers.
If I do decide to fit one as a bit of an aspiring fabricator I was thinking of making it my self so was wondering if any one could help me out with perhaps plans for one? or even a few dimensions of there's would be helpful and if your feeling extra kind a picture of how you have mounted yours and how it looks on the car would be a great help.
Thank you for reading and an extra thanks to any one who reply's

I couldn't give you dimensions or any help ha, but what I can say is put as many holes in it as possible as sump guards often reduce air flow over the sump making it get a tad on the hot side lol.

If fitting a sump guard it is wise to fit an oil cooler as the reduction in airflow beneath the sump does cause the oil to run hotter.

so much effort for pretty much no gain. if anything you will make the vehicle heavier so you will get a performance drop!
you are not going to be participating in any rallies so a sump guard is really not neccesary!
dont bother, spend the money elsewhere :)

All I can say is YES get a sump guard!, from my personal experience in the last month the damaged caused to engine/sump on one of our minis has been very costly.
I'm expecting a delivery of two sump guards from Minispeed this week, but if you have a go at making one that could save you quite a bit of money.

I've ground my sump several times with very little damage to show for it. There will be the time I will hit it too hard and dig a hole in the sump, but the likelihood is so small I'm not going to bother.

If you drive in a spirited manner on unmade-up or gravel roads, then fit a sump guard, an oil cooler and set the ride height about 1 cm to 2 cm higher than standard.
Remember, a sump guard will make the car about 1" closer to the ground which is why you need to raise it a bit.
If you only drive on 'metalled' (i.e. surfaced) roads a sump guard is rather unnecessary.

Use this one:

By the way you need to raise the car or the sumpguard will hit everywhere and cause subframe damage if its not been reinforced.
Once you raise the ride height by 1", you'll soon find out that you have enough clearance to not use a sumpguard.
In a short, when on the road, i remove the sumpguard from minem and fit it onyl for road rallying.

On the topic of oil cooling restriction, would this likely cause any issues with sump cooling? Its a charge cooler install, not my car, thinking about it.
