Thanks, I'm hoping for roughly 300bhp once it's run in, so should hopefully go quite nicely!
Was supposed to be working today, but torrential rain meant that I had to call the job off as fitting CCTV in the rain doesn't really work. So, I cracked on and got a fair bit done on the engine.
First off was getting the power steering pump back on.
It looks a bit crap if I'm honest, you can get a chrome cover for the reservoir but I don't know if that would be a bit too much, what I probably will do is buy a chrome pulley for it to match everything else.
Gave the chassis and the engine bay a quick wipe down with some Chemical Guys 'Bare Bones'. Smells really nice, in fact, the engine smells of bubblegum! It's phenomenal stuff, there was still some residue left over from when the primer and guide code were flattened back on the bulkhead, despite being snow foamed, brushed and rinsed, this stuff got rid of it all in seconds.
Finished off the wiring for the engine, mainly the heat proof and braided sleeving and routed it down at the base of the bulkhead so it's tucked out of the way.
This is the starter motor wiring where the braided meets the heatproof sleeving as it runs quite close to the exhaust manifold
Alternator to starter solenoid wiring takes the same route so did that too
I've ran the wiring a bit different to how it originally was, it's now further away from the manifold but will be better protected by the sleeving
Alternator and choke wiring in place
Bolted the carb in and added the fuel line, I'll have to wait until the carpet is in before I can mount the accelerator pedal and the linkage & brackets onto the carb itself . Handily, the fuel line hides the wiring nicely from the side.
Not so much from the front though.
Can you guess which bit I fitted next?
Air filter!!! I love the look of it, definitely better than the round one.
HT Leads arrived this morning, so built up the holders, unsure if they'll be long enough to reach the distributor with them in the holders so may need to buy the DIY kit and make them up myself to the right length:(
Exhaust manifolds were next. Nice easy job thanks to all the access I have to them with the wheels off. I wasn't looking forward to fitting them as I thought mating them up to the rest of the exhaust would be a bit of a nightmare but they pretty much walked on.
That was it really, I'm mainly waiting for the carpet to come back before I can mount the servo, pedals and steering column. Once they're in, that'll mean the accelerator and kickdown cables can be added to the carb, gear shift linkage can be mounted to the column, and once the power steering pulley has been delivered and fitted, the radiator can go back in then I think it's pretty much ready to be fired up!!!!
