They were quite difficult to find on eBay and came from China, I'll check when I get home, you'll need different bulb holders in your front indicators to make them work, I'll see if I can fin some to match.

Thanks for that. See someone on ebay in the UK has some but yes, would need a bulb holder suitable for double filament. Maybe rear stop/tail from a landy might suffice and use the clear cover? Will wait and see once you have them all wired in.

Regards

Steve

These are the ones that I ordered..

And possibly these bulb holders...

http://www.autoelect...448/category/81

I think that should work.

No problem Steve :D

As mentioned, not a great deal I can do until the truck goes round to my mates, so took the opportunity to lift the new engine out of the corner and give it a good coat of heat resistant paint. The engine came ready painted but I get the feeling that the paint will just flake off so give it a good key then a liberal coat of high temperature black then 3 coats of some high temp & petrol resistant clearcoat to make it a bit more durable.

I'll give the water pump the same treatment so it matches the alternator to make all the chrome engine bits pop.

Dropped the truck round at Si's tonight around 9pm, he got cracking straight away

Posted Image

Inner wing trimmed so its nice and straight instead of it looking like Jaws had cut it out!

Posted Image

No doubt I'll keep an update on what's happening with it over the following days/weeks etc.

Engine bay has been started on bit style!

Slam panel has been sand blasted
Posted Image

Si's dad beavering away getting the inner wings cleaned up
Posted Image
Posted Image
Drivers inner wing still needs cut out behind the brake lines
Posted Image

Underside of the bonnet sand blasted around the frame areas where the heaviest rust/pitting was, the main part of the bonnet was cleaned up with a DA and came up quite well
Posted Image

Starting on the bulkhead
Posted Image

Plenty of high build primer going on, this will all need flattened back to a smooth finish ready for the gloss black to go on. There'll be some late nights for Si these next few weeks!
Posted Image
Posted Image

Also picked up my re-cored/refurbished radiator today, they've fitted it with a modern core to aid cooling, I'm very pleased how it's turned out too, could pass for a new radiator.

Underside of the bonnet and the slam panel/radiator access panel have been flattened back somewhat, almost ready for top coat.

Also, some more shiny bits turned up last week, there are HT leads that get fixed to the rocker covers, the leads come out staggered, I might paint the grooves black to match the rocker covers if I'm feeling brave enough!

Si has been cracking on over the weekend repairing the inner wings and bulkhead

Called in on Sunday night, Si had a manic weekend with loads of work on, but, the bulkhead has been reprofiled, (read: hit with a massive hammer and block of wood!) and the stopper that was applied to the inner wings and bulkhead had been smoothed, the radiator cover panel was being flattened off ready for a final coat of primer too.

The inner wing still needs straightening out behind the brake pipes, possibly even cut out and patched

The passenger side is ok though.

I'll check on progress tonight and see where it's up to.

Didn't check on the process of the truck, don't really want to pester Si too much.

Tonight though, I've been fannying on with the engine getting things bolted on ready for it going in, mainly to speed things up a bit.

Inlet manifold was first to go on along with the gaskets

Polished water neck on

36389219256143-vi.jpg

Not sure if this is a good or bad sign lol?

40389219260500-vi.jpg

Water pump was given the high temp black and clear coat treatment to match the engine as it was a dark grey finish which would have probably rusted in no time.

45389219265888-vi.jpg

Pulley went on.

50389219270886-vi.jpg

Quick peek at what the valve covers will look like

55389219275501-vi.jpg

And with the new air cleaner, definitely made the right choice with these ones.

03389219283744-vi.jpg

07389219287640-vi.jpg

The finishing touch to the air cleaner is definitely the wing nut

16389219296449-vi.jpg

Oil pressure sender is in, so much easier than trying to get it in and nipped up when the engine's in.

11389219291700-vi.jpg

Chrome alternator brackets and refurbished alternator in place, I did consider a chrome alternator but thought it might be a bit overkill

53389226773224-vi.jpg

56389226776203-vi.jpg

Dipstick and water temperature sender fitted

04389226784839-vi.jpg

Engine mounts on, look a bit tatty in comparison to everything else

08389226788629-vi.jpg

12389226792848-vi.jpg

So gave them a quick dusting with the black & clear coat

39389226819193-vi.jpg

By the looks of the inlet manifold, there's nowhere to put the carb spacer, I'm guessing because it's matched to the carb, I don't need to run with it as the carb studs line up exactly with the manifold.

So there we go, that's pretty much all I can really do until it's out of it's crate, I've put the pressed metal valve covers back on and taken the carb back off for now so nothing gets damaged, that means there's still the fuel pump, oil filter adapter, crank damper, crank pulley, flex plate, carb, valve covers, air cleaner, starter motor and distributor to go on, not really a massive amount, that will all have to be done just before it's ready to drop in though.

Nice Chevy man! My personal favorite year for the trucks is 1956 personally, but this one is GREAT. My Dad & I used to own two Dodge Power Wagons, his was a 1947 and mine was a 1954. I love old American iron. Keep up the good work, you're doing the world a good service keeping one of these old trucks alive and active. God bless!  :highfive:

Cheers :D

The '47 - '53 Advanced Design Chevy's are my personal favourite, I just think the proportions are just right with the shape of the rear wings etc.

I wouldn't say no to a '56 either, but I think I'd try and get a hold of a '47 - '53 panel van if I ever decided to sell this one on, I doubt it though as I think this is a keeper.

My buddy John has a '56 Nomad wagon (estate) with a Merlin 540cid engine pumping out 900 horse to the rear wheels...ALL MOTOR. It has nitrous too but he saves it for the track. His Dad bought it from California for $7400 and it came with a original 427 big block from an older 'vette. That was the one thing that always kept us bonded as friends....our love for the tri-fives! Love your truck man! I'll bet you get LOTS of looks rolling that sled around the roundabouts! Cheers from USA!

Well, a bit of progress.  Bonnet has been flattened back ready for the final prep for it's top coat

51389388291404-vi.jpg

Engine bay is in primer with the guide coat ready for flatting back.  Notice the rudimentary gearbox mount that Si made up, clever sod!

53389388293604-vi.jpg

Brake servo is off to get a better paint finish

55389388295588-vi.jpg

57389388297674-vi.jpg

Radiator cover/slam panel has been flattened back ready for the top coat too.

59389388299600-vi.jpg

Shouldn't be long now!
