I've seen your Metro in the flesh twice this year, (Uttoxeter and Stanford Hall), and it truly is very nice. Mrs mininuts had to drag me away from it at Stanford
thanks mate, its nice to know people look at it! i have had some smart comments about it before at shows such as "thats not a mini" etc. so sometimes i feel a little awkward going to the shows in it.
my usual retort is that it has more mini parts in it than a bmw MINI does!

i sent him a quick message to let him know, and in return i got a really arsey reply saying that he removed it himself from his montego. im certain im right on this, can any of you guys identify the grille?

that sure looks like a metro grille to me, those three tabs on the inside at the top, and the three prongs that go into the front panel at the bottom.

now i know the slats are different, and i know there were different grilles for the montego over the years, but to my knowledge all looked like this one along the top, and all have that cut out which i think is for the bonnet catch.
what do you think?

i noticed the numberplate on the front was loose at one end, after taking it off and poking it i found this (the cat helped) i was a little shocked to be honest as its pretty much completely rust free, i guess its just the drilled holes for the numberplate, and it being 30 years old.
quick grind, cut, weld, and the holes were gone.
its not perfectly flat, but i was in a rush, and the numberplate covers it anyway.
i also dismantled the numberplate, sanded it down smooth, stuck on some new reflective vinyl, and reassembled, the old plate looked really tatty and had been bugging me for ages. i think old plates really let a car down.
as that worked so well i did the rear too....
i know its all only little bits, but the plates have really transformed the car, plus i needed to keep myself busy while im waiting for a bigger engine to turn up......
anyone got a 1380?

however, i do need a new engine to put in its place once this one is lifted out though, and this is proving to be the biggest problem! i cant find one!
