Spent a little time on this car today, fitting the new wheel cylinders and drums. Took the opportunity to clean up and add some lubricant to the handbrake levers as well. I just need to try and bleed the system and hope I've solved the problem . . .

 

I fitted new handbrake lever boots as well, because the last ones disintegrated from poor rubber quality. Hope the new "expensive" ones last a bit longer now.

That's terrifying... When were those handbrake boots fitted and I'm guessing they were never used?

I pulled a 50 year old set off a subframe. They still looked near new! So much better than the stuff you get now...

Fitted about 3 years ago, but fell apart within a year. I pulled off the last pieces while swapping the cylinders yesterday . . . Frustrating to say the least.

I try and fit good original items before fitting new rubber products. The shaft boots on the Hardy Spicer setup are original items in good condition because the last ones also perished.

No progress pictures today, but I can now select all gears - the selector couplings on the diff housing needed some adjustment to get everything into place. The clutch hydraulics were bled and the clutch itself adjusted. Will do a final check and adjustment when the car is running. 

 

Lastly, I went through the braking system and checked all the joins for tightness, then attempted bleeding the system again. Still not perfect and no leaks that I can see, so probably still sitting with air in the system somewhere. Hopefully I can get this right . . .

Well, I haven't touched this car in almost a year now! Just haven't had the motivation or want to finish her off . . . I did try and get back into it this last week or two and revisited the carb setup. Wasn't happy with the way they were working, so had them looked over by an old school carb guy who got them nice and smooth. Was given a linkage kit by a local SA Mini owner. Also ordered a new heat shield and some fresh bolts/screws to neaten everything up. I'm hoping this is the year she gets on the road . . .

Well, it looks like 2020 went to $#*@!! 

 

Hopefully 2021 holds more for this car ... I did make some progress though. The Maniflow exhaust manifold was nickel plated and has now been fitted up, along with the carbs :

 

 

 

One more item ticked off the list. I'll hopefully make more progress this time around. Quite a bit to still neaten up and add into the engine bay, along with changing out some of the fixings to more permanent items.

It seems 2021 hasn't really gone to plan either, but I am trying to get somewhere with this car. A little while ago I purchased a locally produced anti-roll bar for the rear. Quite a nice product made by Bestune (I have a few of his items for this car). I got around to fitting it recently. I want to do the final adjustment and tightening once the car is back on its wheels :

 

 

Next on the to-do list is to take a look at the brakes. I think the front caliper pistons are sticking so the pedal doesn't feel so great at the moment. It's getting there slowly.
