Pete, I know the answer is probably somewhere in the thread but what paint do you use? Do you wear and air fed face mask or is it isocynate free?

Is that mask protection enough...? I thought you could get ill just from 2k touching your skin..?

When I spray with that mask on I can't smell anything.
When I take it off I can smell solvents on my disposable overalls
It's just a case of using common sense really. I'm not spraying 2K often so I don't think its a problem

I'm back!
Long story but I put this Mini build on hold whilst I rebuilt a 26 year old 200SX. It's finished now.....
I put the Mini in an integral garage whilst I rebuilt the Nissan. Brought it home on a low loader
One done, one to do.....
This is where I'm up to
Updates soon
Thanks for looking

The Nissan looks beautiful Pete.
How far did you go with that one?
Good news the Mini is getting some love again now.
I just acquired a 1998 MPI Cooper which I shall be restoring soon. It's not as bad as yours was despite sitting in a field up in Scotland for over a decade but still lots to be done.
Looking forward to more updates.
Cheers
Ben

Wow, what a build!
I just spent the last 3 nights reading through this, loved every minute. So much useful information on rust treating and painting too.
Thanks for taking the time. I can't wait to see it finished.

Stripped to shell and back Ben_0
Resprayed underneath, engine bay, Inside of boot and all suspension components.
Massive job because of the number of parts
Since it's only done 25K miles it's mechanically spot on so all I did to the engine is clean it up, paint it, new cam belt, oil and filter.
Took 2 1/2 years and I work on my cars every day EEK!!
Back to the Mini now which will be my last build.
I bought some budget Hilos off ebay when I first started the build. Can't say I'm 100% happy with them so they have to go. I want this Mini to be "proper"
.......Sorry Phil I need to borrow your spring compressor again.....
I have decided to buy some "real" Hilos from mini spares along with KYB AGX adjustable shocks.
It's been hard to decide which shocks to fit but KYB are a premium brand. I have used them on other cars for years and am happy with them.
I'm also not happy with the rear castor camber brackets so again I will buy some from Mini Spares
I need a green tint blue band screen. If anyone knows a supplier I would appreciate it
I'm having big problems with an oil temp gauge also, When I connect it up through the voltage regulator it reads way too high. I put the sensor in a pan of boiling water and the gauge read 140C. I need this to be accurate in case I need to fit an oil cooler when I road test it.
It's frustrating when new things are not right.... this is my 3rd gauge and sender.....I will sort it.
Lots to do but excited to be back on the Mini

Minispares sell a replacement oil sensor/adaptor for the MPI, but as you're not using the MPI block, perhaps you could adapt the Minispares one to fit?
