Don't know if it's worth posting this up but I masked the back of the bonnet up and sprayed the top -
Base
Clear

Looks really good Did you spray it outside? If so did you get much dust/insects in it?

That's a beautiful spray job on the bonnet.

Yes but I picked my day. There's a few bits landed on top of the clear coat which will hopefully come out when I wet sand and polish it with the rotary. The main thing is not to have dust/insects between the base and clear coats as these will be visible. By spraying the base coat on in the sun, it soon flashed off so I could get the clear on pretty soon. I guess time will tell if it's OK

Finish is OK but these things always look better in the pics. I'm going to spray the doors (and a load of other panels from another car) in the garage but I need to get the Mini out first

I don't have an expensive gun, it's a Devilbiss Finishline and you can see it on the floor in the second pic. Painting is all about timing and getting enough paint on so it flows out without running in my opinion. Ive read quite a bit about it, especially with metallic's - drop coats and fancy tips for guns but it's a load of nonsense in my book.
For the techie minded they say that a metallic basecoat has to be sprayed on with the gun at the right angle to get the colour / reflection right, especially with pearlescent paints. The reason for this is to get the metal particles to sit at the right angle for reflection purposes. My point is, as soon as you spray the clearcoat on, it melts into the basecoat allowing the metal particles to re-settle with gravity. If you spray the panel the way it sits on the car, there wont be a problem. That's why I sprayed the bonnet flat and the doors will be sprayed upright.
This build has gone a bit OTT now I'm really looking forwards to getting it on the road though

Aye I'm sure they have, I've only ever done a few sprays jobs never outside though thats why i was curious :) . Done a wing at work for my girlfriends MK6 fiesta and it got a few bits of dust in it in the clear but polished out ok :)

Does the rubber seal not go on the bonnet lip? I could be wrong, can't really go by the size of it in that picture.

Great!

Either way, it's another part less to source, thanks guys
I started flatting the bonnet with some 2000 wet and dry. You can see the bits that are in the clear coat and also the orange peel.
If these don't come out I'll spray it again. I've quite a bit of stuff to paint which I want to do in the garage so I need to get the rolling shell out. The plan is to get the Mini doors done at the same time

I'm not sure that piece is long enough for the scuttle. Plus I'm not sure why a seam trim for the scuttle would come with a distributor shield.
Goes along the rear of the front edge of the bonnet I would say.
