These are the shims for the radius arm shafts

If parts were manufactured to the right tolerances, you wouldn't need this kind of crap.

They fit behind the thrust washer to space it out.

Almost a rolling shell now :proud:

Big thanks to Phil who has helped me no end on this project ;D

Where did you get the shims from? I could do with some myself!

A friend of mine gave them to me. He told me they came with a radius arm service kit but I will ask him.

Guess this is a bit of a milestone, after 2 1/2 years, it's now a rolling shell

Lovely looking head - what are you thinking of using to finish the bare metal surfaces that will still show once the rocker cover is on etc?

The oil that will inevitably leak out from the crappy cork gaskets will protect that just fine

Thanks guys. If Dynax UC would stand the heat, it would protect it. Engines don't get that hot and I sprayed the head with normal 2K car paint.

Next up is the gearbox

First job is to remove the NS diff output cover

1381_zps6fyuei3y.jpg

Then the OS

There is a ball and spring behind this one that pops out

1383_zps238lzj51.jpg

Lock tabs and diff housing bolts removed

1384_zpszezcbyxk.jpg

Diff backplate removed

Diffy out

Speedo housing removed

Are you rebuilding the box yourself?

No, never done one before. A good friend is going to help me out

Baulk rings / bearings / layshaft need checking. I also have a brand new 2nd gear if needed (£75 - Ouch)

It will also have a central oil pickup pipe and X pin Diff. FD will be a 3.44 so as the title says, it's gonna be screaming it's nuts off

The rest of the box is being stripped tomorrow. I have a good idea of whats needed but you can't beat an expert eye on things ;D

I need a 3.44 diff and centeral oil pickup pipe if anyone has one.

Got this lot so far

X Pin Diff

1389_zpsu5xqa1sh.jpg

New 2nd gear just in case. I have been told these are not easy to get hold of

1390_zps3hygdi0n.jpg

Full bearing kit

1391_zpsfcy98zic.jpg

Experience tells me that unbranded bearings are a nono so I won't be using those. Plastic cages on needle rollers? Epic fail in my book

1392_zpspho9a9j4.jpg

Stripped the paint off the 5 1/2 gallon fuel tank with this poly strip wheel. These don't remove much in the way of metal

1388_zpsskmxfo1m.jpg

Came up like this

1394_zpshy8mslwf.jpg

Just needs a quick blast to get rid of any pitting

Pete

Those strip wheels are fantastic. I have some little 50mm roloc ones and I've found I can be very precise.
I like the switch to the 5 1/2 gallon tank, I've got hold of one too. Are you planning on twin tanks?
