Thanks, I will get Mika, who started the thread to update it to something a bit more appropriate.

This is the amp for the ICE I bought some time ago. Top end (so I'm told) and light

Decent speaker cable - not so light :ohno:

1111_zpsbadd026b.jpg

Tinned the end of the speaker cable to prevent the strands spreading if I ever need to take them out.

Big stuff needs a big soldering iron. You need to get enough heat in to prevent "sugary" poor quality results

Amp fitted under the rear shelf. I drilled the mounting holes before I sprayed the shell. It's just visible but you can also see a brass bolt I fitted for the amp earth

Headlights was a no brainer - Cibie's

1115_zpsfecfe145.jpg

As are the spots

1116_zpsdc05445e.jpg

These are Oscar+ units. I tried to find some original early 80's grey backed Cibie's but struggled. These have a flat back so at least they can sit a bit more flush to the car.

At this stage on any rebuild, it's important to keep things clean as it's nigh on impossible to remove dust and dirt from intricate areas. Plastic might seem a good idea but it won't allow the car to breathe, the paint might seem dry but the solvents will still be evaporating. Cotton sheets FTW thumbsup_zps8cfc91ce.gif

LOL @ Ben, The Min is living a life of luxury in the garage. House is freezing though

Thanks myredmini, though I'm not sure exactly what to call it as I know there are a lot of purists out there. I'm thinking "Mini Cooper 998 screamer nut and bolt rebuild"

I would welcome any feedback on this

Thanks

Pete

The thing is the word "Cooper" in my book is associated with early Minis. Later models were sold off the back of the name. Big fat wheels and arches are not what a Mini is all about, bumpsteer, tramlining comes with big fat wheels - that's why I ditched the lot.

I'm trying to build the "ultimate" road going Mini with a bit of originality - 10" wheels in the best shell - a modified MK5 so it's a hybrid. I tell you what, when I finally drive it, I bet it's a real piece of kit!

I can't see what the problem would be with having cooper in the title.

Whatever views people have on what a cooper might be, you did start off with a car that is called a Mini Cooper, that is what it is and will be registered as so why not?

Headlights was a no brainer - Cibie's

With Headlights and spots, is there a big difference between brands?  I have no experience (yet) and would love to know if there truly is a difference.

There’s quite a big difference in headlight performance. HID’s are probably the best bet but require a lot of modifications. As far as straight replacements go, Cibies are about as good as it gets. The lens and reflectors are a better design than say Wipac Quadoptics, but the Cibies are double the price and don’t include bulbs. Cibie headlights were fitted to most rally cars in the 70’s and 80’s, they also used both the Cibie Oscar’s and the larger Super Oscar spots. That’s why I chose them.

Things have no doubt moved on and spotlights such as PIAA will outperform the Cibie’s

Still continuing to be amazed by your skills, can you use the Cibie's with the Mpi electronic height adjustable headlight gubbins?

Thanks Pete!

No problemo

Not sure but I have a feeling the headlight mountings are completely different. I can find out for you though

I have removed all the adjusting gubbins and gone for Wipac bolws

1118_zps8f1c3cb3.jpg

Fuse box and relays for the spotlights. I will only be using 2 spots

1119_zpsf435a34e.jpg

These will be wired with 1mm cable. That equates to 16A so they could easily take 100W bulbs ;D

Got most of the wiring in for the ICE. Sub is light and goes under the passenger seat for better weight distribution - Yeah OK a bit OTT but why not wack_zps216954f4.gif

1120_zps559e47ee.jpg

Also trial fitted the dash and console. I have a lot to shoehorn at the back of that lot

1121_zps26b80943.jpg

My main concern at the moment is the amount of room around the clutch pedal. Next job is to fit the pedal box to check but it looks to me like the console on the drivers side needs cutting back quite a bit. The last thing I want is the console in the way. I recently drove a Lotus Elise S2 and the pedal positioning was terrible - so much so that it ruined the driving experience. I really need to sort this out before I go any further

Pete where do you buy your stainless steel nuts and bolts from, local or online?
