Thanks guys. Long way to go though, I need to build an engine and gearbox..... and everything else!

2K primer on the stone chip. This is just normal 2K not acid etch. Acid etch is best used on bare metal as the acid etches into the steel to provide better adhesion. Acid on a plastic based surface is not recommended.

Followed by a wet coat of 2K solid (not metallic) There's quite a composite of layers under here now which should offer some serious protection. This was then flatted to get rid of any high spots and leave an even finish. Ive seen cars painted over stone chip and the results can look a bit of a mess. Hopefully this method will provide the optimum base for the metallic paint and clear coat

You can't keep lashing paint on otherwise it will craze, I need to leave this for a good few days to allow the solvents to evaporate.

Thanks for the feedback, it’s very much appreciated.
I keep buying parts that will be used later down the line but I’m trying to post updates in a readable order. Funny how things change  :D  I noticed a house around the corner being shot blasted so I took the front subby round. Cost me £20, its not perfect but 99% there

0948_zpsb2938a35.jpg

Then seam welded the turret tops

0949_zpsf7a0020d.jpg

Working a bit back to front here, normally I would have welded up the turrets before shot blasting

0950_zpsc6d18f08.jpg

I don’t think its worth going mad seam welding the front subby on a road car (correct me if I’m wrong)  The only other welding I intend to do is on the tie rod mounts.

I really need to get this cleaned up and primed pronto as it’s not a good idea to leave bright steel without any protection for long.

This lot has kept me busy whilst the paint is hardening ready for the next stage on the shell ;D

Pete

Ahh how convenient having a local blaster to do it! There aren't any people who blast stone around here, might see about giving someone a call though who does ;)

I agree, the loss in time and effort grinding down welds isn't worth it for a road car, maybe so on a rally stage car that gets a bit of abuse every now and again, but having said that you'd do a lot of other modifications to it if you were rallying too.

Enjoying your updates Pete, still can not believe the finish you're getting.
