Good luck with the spot welding Pete. Have you tried the new tips out on some scrap first? Only i have tried making slim tips in the past and they just blew holes.

Can't wait to see it all nailed up!

Ben

Thanks for the encouragement :proud: I made the tips on the spot welder a bit bigger Ben, thanks for your advice.

Took 2 days to spot weld it on, dunno how many welds I did but it's about 300

Forced zinc down the seams as per usual

No bucking of the skin at all

Next job is to get some seam sealer inside of the gutter.

Just read this thread for the second time as there is such a wealth of information! The work you have done is absolutely incredible, and it is inspiring to see such dedication to detail and perfection. I have a 98 Mpi that is beginning to look like yours did at the start of your project, in the not to distant future I hope to start a build and will certainly be coming back to this thread for some great tips.

Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to see the finished product.

Chris

Presumambly the panels have to be free from dirt/grit before paint, how do you ensure none of the blast media remains particularly in the seams you have split?

I blew the seams out with a compressed air gun. It's not possible to get all of the blast media out but when filled with zinc and crimped back, it won't be a problem. Thanks for the kind words and good luck with yours.

Got some 2K paint on the roof

Hi David, Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately, I've posted all the pics I have of the bonnet pins / buttons.

The shell isn't too far away from final paint now but as soon as I have fitted them I will post some detailed pics up

Thanks Lyn, I'm doing my best. After considerable thought, I've decided to spray inside the shell with the final metallic paint, then flip it to finish underneath. I can then mask up and finish the exterior.

First up though, some serious rubbing down - like 3 days worth and I'm only half there!
