Sprayed the heelboard / OS floor and flitch panel blue. It needs a bit more work but it's best to protect the primer with gloss.
Next job is to cut the whole of the boot floor out

Looking as good as ever Pete, the finish is superb!, if the underside is anything to go by the top side paint finish should be class (no pressure )
Look forward to seeing the boot being replaed, nice big sheet of new metal

just read through all this Pete, fantastic work! My 96 SPI is at a similar stage atm, good to see I wasn't the only one struggling with the rust

I reckon when you pull the trigger on that beast, the rest of the street plunges into darkness.....
Haha this is what happens when i use mine

Thanks for the replies. These late model Minis sure have rust issues. The more I look, the more I find. The reason I didn't prime the front floor pan is that the steering rack stiffeners have rust behind them so they need to come off, I will post some pics up.
Spot welders use low voltage but mega current and yep, the lights dim when it's in use
Got the rear floor in gloss. It might be worth pointing out at this stage of the game, it's impossible to get a good finish and to be honest it's pretty pointless. It's full of bits and by the time the boot floor is welded in it will look a mess. Once the whole shell is re fabricated and painted blue, I can start on prepping it for a proper paint job.
I converted my garage into an office some time ago and am now in the process of converting it back. It's quite a big job but I don't want to leave the shell outside over winter. It will be stored in an insulated, centrally heated space. I just wish it was big enough to get my other car in
Thanks for looking

Thanks for the feedback.
I converted my garage into an office some time ago but haven't got the heart to leave the shell outside all winter. Time for some major surgery...
Plasterboard and insulation removed from behind the door
Studding removed
Walls modded to enable the door to open. It was a bit tricky to get the insulation right.
It's more of a storage space than a garage but at least it's bone dry.

Good thinking, the nights are drawing in and the weather will be getting colder, wetter and miserable. Ive just kicked my pristine vectra vxr outside under a cover for my little mini to be all dry. I didnt fancy getting soaked half way through body panel replacement

Got the car in, like you say it will make things so much easier
Some drive pics
The boot floor has a stiffener than runs under the seat. Ground the welds out of the old one
Spot welded to the new boot floor
Front subby stiffeners split from bulkhead
Progress should resume again now the garage is sorted
