The only pump I fit is the AC Dodd 'Zero Tollerance' pump. Thomas Classic and Modern stock them.
It still doesn't stop them getting smashed by detritis in the gearbox, sadly.

I know that, just mentioning one of the best available A series oil pumps incase it helps.

Thanks for the replies. The engine is a 998 and some of the better pumps are out of stock. I also don't want to drill the block. I'm still thinking about it.
Yeah the failiures are epic to say the least I hate Brian
This is the camshaft that came out. it's suppost to be a Kent VP3 ground from a blank.
I've never seen wear on the lobes like this before
Any comments would be appreciated
Thanks

Interesting
The followers were allegedly genuine ISKY but to be honest, I have my doubts about many of the parts I was supplied with.

The gearbox is sorted. A few thou has been taken off the 4th gear baulk ring. This has stopped the first motion shaft tightening against the main shaft gear assembly.
It looks like the MED baulk rings stand off from the gears slightly more than the original Rover ones.
4th gear synchro doesn't work too hard because you never change down.
It's not been easy but it's sorted
This time it's been shimmed properly
I'll get there!
Thanks for looking

Cylinder head was a bit of a mess due to it running rich. It's not easy to clean the carbon off, especially on the exhaust valves where it gets hotter.
I soaked it in thin oil.....
Then kept scrubbing it with a brass brush
I'm going to measure the head volume myself this time
It's a 12g295 with flat top pistons. I reckon I need 23cc for a 10:1 compression

Are they rimflo valves?
Yes
The head is ported and the valves are a bit bigger than stock

Vizard recommends not to fit rimflows on exhaust due to inhibiting flow out of the chamber?
Welcome any thoughts/info on this
Never heard that, I'd also welcome any thoughts
It took me ages to clean the engine bay up
Then I saw this
It's not the pot joints, engine or gear box
It's one of the very few parts left on the car I bought from guess where........... Yup Minisport
I think I'll remove the front subframe and replace the steering rack. I cannot trust anything from there

Not really having much luck with anything from there are you?
It's not really a question of luck. It's a case of parts not being fit for purpose, which is why I'm highlighting the problems.
I've built / restored quite a few cars over the years and never had major problems like this before.
The problem is poor quality parts that have a knock on effect..... Knackered engine...
Lack of skills by people who have done work for me.... tapered crankshaft.... gearbox not assembled properly
You are right though, the rack will be going in the bin, along with many other parts!
I've spent about a grand so far replacing parts from suppliers who you would think you should be able to trust
I'll see how it goes but I will sort it. It's hassle I could do without though
