oh come off it no one really cares. if they did they would have done something with it. they would have probably used it as landfill when filling in the tunnels, which they are bound to do. he probably did them a favour!

This is an interesting read! As a new poster (but not new member or Mini owner), I hope my opinion is valued too!

This was not a car owned and registered by someone, it was a scrap of metal on someone's land that wasn't worth anything to any multi-million pound investement/development company. If SteveM was working with them or even someone who wasn't, I've no doubt that as long as nobody was going to get injured on their land, they don't care who takes any scraps of leftovers there.
As for the principle, conversely to the previous point, the shell SHOULD be a car, it's of no real interest to anyone outside of the romance side of it for die-hard Mini lovers. As a car, it will be appreciated much more, and after all, it's what it was built to do/be (before someone slipped and knocked it on the floor!).
Nothing is of any use to anyone rotting away underground, and things should do what they are designed to. This being a car, it should be a car!

Really shocked and surprised you've taken it out of the tunnels, in a good way. If I had the means to do this I would have done it long ago. I wasn't initially sure whether I agreed with you restoring the car, but if you can keep the original shell then great. Either way, I'd much rather know it's in safe hands than shut away in a cold, damp tunnel as a chunk of Mini-shaped scrap metal. So thank you very much stevem, for preserving a great piece of Mini history.

part of me thought it should be left there as a time capsule for someone to find in many years time

but now it's out yes fix it up and stick it back on the road

take lots of pictures as the history is what will make this mini

campers have even been dug out of the forest after sitting there of 40 odd years and with a lot of work driven out and home

Yeah I've seen that one too I think. Didn't the guy camp there and get the camper running over a couple of weeks?

I get a little confused sometimes, someone is ridiculed for rescuing a mini for a project. Yet it won't take long to find a thread where someone is breaking a mini and everyone jumps on it for the parts and there is no ridicule. One, two, three mini's die, hopefully another lives to keep the balance.

i have read all posts and i was a bit worried if i have done the right thing i had permission by the developers to salvage items from the sight because lets get it right they was all going "IN THE BIN" then what... we all cry because its all gone ....i have watched for the last 7 years how they have tore that site apart from the inside and outside so i just thought there is an iconic mini in there and it needs to be saved thanks for the words of encouragement i really really appreciate them and take all your advice on board
