I think it should be stamped on the VIN plate inside the wing?

there are 3 plates on the bonnet slam panel - none of those three resemble paint codes.

and another one on the passenger side inner wing but none look like a paint code like BLVC etc.

I think it's the BLVC plus a number on the end. http://www.theminifo...opic=46823&st=0

yeah i cant find any (blvc code) thats what i meant in my previous post none of the numbers letters on the inner wing resemble blvc
or any of the 3 plates on the slam panel.

inner wing starts with code FE414.....and the slam panels code start with 20w then numbers. or XC2W2 then numbers.

if anyone has any ideas to track or find the original factory paint code be much appreciated.

This might help, it's a BL colour chart from the late 1970's.

does anyone have a 79 clubman estate and know where i can find the paint code location on the car.

i found this site below and everything seems to match up for original spec on the car.

If it has been that colour from new then the paint code will be on the vin plate!
If not then your best bet would be to go to your paint supplier and get them to match it!

VIN plates were only fitted from around 1984 - after van production had ceased so no vans have VIN plates. They do have chassis number plates but there is no paint code stamped on them or the large weight rating plate.

The top two pics show the weight rating plate and the chassis number plate and have matching numbers - this should also match the chassis number on the V5C. The third plate is also a chassis plate but doesn't belong to your van and the last pic is the commission number which seems to be an internal reference number used by the various companies that made up BL/Austin Rover/Whatever they were called that particular week. Very little documentation exists to relate commission numbers to anything useful as I understand it!

On the colour, it looks like it could be Pageant blue, but the best bet is to get it to a proper automotive paint factors (yell.com) and have them match the colour.

None of those above have the paint code on.

I think the only chassis plates that have the paint and trim codes are the later one like this.

I'm not sure if a paper label was stuck in one of the door shuts, as is the case with other manufacturers.

my car 79 clubman estate has been resprayed not a mini blue so unless i can find the vin plate on my car and find a paint code then i'm up the left as to what colour it originally was.

i didnt think it would be this difficult to track the cars original colour.

If the car has had a colour change sometimes you can find some of the original colour under the top dash rail of above the headliner. You might be able to match that up with teh colour chart I posted.

theres no headliner on the car and all i can see is blue overspray on the rear door hinge i can see red white & blue :-)
if i cant track the original colour i might just opt for the colour of the mini on this forum header above.
